Since the higher the level of the pet is, the harder it becomes to level it, I would suggest to level it up to 5-6 by afking/playing, and rest with level up from item mall.

When your pet expires, it does not get destroyed. You will find it in your bags, right click on it and then choose period extension. You can buy pet's Period Extension in the item mall.

To get to level 10 without mall requires 9 months always logged in. Which is impossible.
