I am adding another 4 map servers today. But there is a limit to the total number that can be created.

 

When you say 4 map servers, what exactly do you mean? Is that 4 t1.micros? I'm on a 1gbps line and I'm still experiencing so much lag that it's pretty impossible to play. I hope at this point, with the state of technology and cloud web hosting services, that you are not still running bare metal in your own data center...

 

Can we get more insight into what the specs of the servers are that you are running to handle this kind of load?

it still has lags on some popular maps,

 

i still see bots occasionally on some popular maps,

 

i still get KSed by player and parties on popular maps.

 

 

i am wasteing gums and like 8 of 10 token of siegfried because of server lags on popular maps.

Well im already for Friggs even if we cant have MvPs cards or WoE i dont mind, just want to play, i cant move, hell i cant even fish without delay lol.

Morrocc is now unplayable. Can the lag infested maps not have their own zones like Prontera? You just keep rotating which areas it plagues heavily, it's almost like a reverse spotlight to make people not wanna level in those zones.

 

Kinda sad it ruined fishing and that's just NPC chats.  :p_sad:

That is exactly what we've been doing in terms of distribution, we create more zone (or map servers) whenever we split the maps.

Maybe you should impose some bounds, someone can only stay 30m a day at a specific map,, and the he has to move to another one... :)

Well whichever one(s) got moved to Morrocc area is really bad - I was in Sphinx. Even stepping one map right of Prontera has extreme lag. I tried using battleping but it hardly fixes it. :(

 

Prontera is great though, I don't feel any lag here.

Whatever you guys did on the server High Orcs and Clock Tower are really unplayable right now. I was leveling group and EVERYONE was complaining about the huge amounts of lag we are facing. It was laggy before the att, but now it is really really unplayable.

Did some testing on various popular maps while checking IP connections (from LA), if anyone is interested these were the results

Bear in mind on the latency checks many of them were made after account server went down (noticed numbers dropping so attempted to log in on alt and couldnt), so they are probably much better than normally expected.  Since I checked out most of the common maps though it looks like we have about 12 map servers at the moment, which means if they added 4 additional ones today they increased the number of them by 50%.  It's certainly possible I missed some though since this clearly was not an exhaustive search, but merely looking at the more common and populous areas.

I see many people complaining and criticizing, but I see few people to support it.
Sincerely, I want to congratulate the team, because I am an avid player of more than 20 mmorpg, and in none of them do I see a staff so dedicated to solve the problems of the game and even respond to the forum.
Are all of congratulations and I believe that they solved many problems soon, because we all know that once one is solved, there are 2 new problems.
I just pray that they will continue this way and do not stop doing this great work in the course of time ...
Ps: Do something against the bot's, this is horrible.

Ah, but the real question is... Do those other games you play have as many problems staff have to respond to in the first place? ;)

I'm beginning to think that you just do not have the proper budget to support the amount of users.

 

And if this is the case I sympathize with those who are trying their best to rectify the situation without the support of those in charge of providing proper hardware and server space

What about(at least until situation wont be better) ask 1 admin, or member of staff or so, to check popular maps and BAN/ IP BAN(both would be best :-) ) obvious bots?(They aren't so hard to determine from other players)

It's not permanent solution, but will definitelly help a little(with both lags and bot situation on the server) and players will be happy when they'll see you doing sth like this.

It will be later today. Were queuing everything up first. In the mean time we've reduced the death penalty by 50%

I got to say I have not really been exposed  lag. I have been playing  since 2004, I might get a spike but otherwise I find game play to be ok.  I wonder if people are not use to ragnarok and expect it to run like some modern game :)

Usually it's around 200ms for me and it's playable, recently it spiked to 300 - 400 range and it's becoming too lag for me.

 

And here ppl are complaining about spiking to 100ms and it's laggy for them to play  :hmm:

Yeah, the lag kinda clears whenever the login server has crashed. I wish it was 30ms when I was playing... don't know how that's even possible considering your Prontera & others match but they weren't even close to lag free prime time.  :p_sick:

 

 

Edit @ 11am: Comodo is lagged out to the point the chat can lock up for a good 3+ seconds before giving you options. Hopefully you extend the fishing event because it's really unbearable to do it right now with a lagged out char select and map loading. Morroc town is okay but entering Sphinx you can feel a change in the lag, not as bad as yday - yet, still having 2-3second fly wings and unpottable lag. Geffen is pretty bad, full on map freezes here for multiple seconds. Byalan is pretty lag free but loaded with bots on every floor. Prontera has been clear ever since you moved it. High Orc maps have been unplayable - extreme lag - for multiple redistributions (this is probably the biggest problem right now cause where ever you move it, it ruins the maps paired with it). I am using BattlePing and without it, it's a lot worse.

 

Please let the IT man know he's just shuffling around the lag and some of the other high traffic areas need their own space instead of putting them on another zone and ruining multiple maps until the next redistribution.  :p_swt: Thank you!

To be honest, if you really want to 'restart' RO from the beginning, you need to really start it from the beginning. Bring back old payon, get rid of all this renewal stuff that ruins the integrity of the game and bring back subscription based game play. At that point people will actually care and you won't have a server with 5k bots and 1k real people trying to have fun, but are having the game ruined for them by having everything take 5x as long to do because of all the bots saturating the good maps. This freemium game play has ruined my view of RO, speaking as someone who played back in alpha years ago.

With lag and bots, some bots have already looted me before I could see what items I have dropped.

Is it possible to increase the delay before an item can be dropped by everyone ?

Something like 8/10 seconds ?
