iRO lose its loot boxes? That'd be the day.

It's all bloody greed. Just have guaranteed cosmetics, it'd be the less of the evils.

Putting in money and potentially not getting what you want is gambling. The kick to the gonads is you don't even get a tangible item you get some pixels.

Not a fan of boxes but this dude is talking like he knows industry information that he clearly lacks legitimate knowledge. I believe that companies will hide behind the same defense as collectible trading cards. You don't know what is inside but you are getting something for your money no matter what, so its OK.

He comes off as a poor gamer who thinks money is evil and anyone who actively tries to make money is morally inferior to himself.

Video is full of idealistic scenarios and tired narratives about how game companies use money. 6:30 is especially cringe-worthy. In the same video he dumps on paid cosmetics, loot crates, and the game as a service model. That alone is enough to realize there is really no benefit to watching the video.

Games don't come from magic. They come from significant investment into highly skilled workers to create an enterprise ready product. Then significant risk that the game just doesn't resonate or have strong enough staying power in the face of flavor of the week games.

Do you honestly think the majority of their revenue is going into the people that make the games and expansion to make better games? If you think so, you're highly delusional. Every corporation is the same, why do you think some CEO's get paid multi million dollars and they lay off their employees?

Loot boxes is gambling and you don't get any tangible items. But the definition of gambling is using money to potentially gain more money.

The argument of guaranteed cosmetic items is that people feel they should be in game.

Without offering any legitimate way for the company to make money this dude is just complaining to hear himself regurgitate the same stupid ideas offering nothing.

Gamers and game commentators have no idea how expensive it is to keep a game online. They have the luxury of not needing to worry about how things are accomplished. They just get to sit back and freeload and entitle themselves to an amazing game experience for free. Everyone wants a game that you pay $20 dollars for and receive infinite benefit and free game updates. That might pay for the initial development costs, but the network infrastructure and overhead costs of game companies is absolutely massive. Not to mention you can't just hire Average Joe to monitor and maintain it all. People always act like game development should only be a hobby.

If you are paying for a video game it is inherent that you are paying for pixels. No different than buying a digital download of a movie or song. Just because the good is digital does not make it have 0 value. For example with OCP, those 'pixels' happen to make your character do a million % more damage. If you want to get technical, you are renting the ability to benefit from an improved gameplay experience. You are paying for the subjective increase in benefit you feel from playing the game when you p2w or pay to stand out. Just like when you pay a subscription service. You are renting the ability to access the game servers for an amount of time.

Money needs to be made, but it doesn't need to come in the form of gatcha ya know.
