if both are PVM focus 

 

have full basic gears 

 

(core items :   Gene with Harvester or  Cylinder   ,    Mech with Tornado Axe or Supple chips)

 

Gene is more friendly and it's the top PVM / MVP class at all 

easier to leveling both solo , party  (of course Bio4 party)    fast movement speed    instant cast CC  , FCP and a lot of good MVPing skill against all elements  

 

(but really strong against  Undead / Shadow / Holy / Ghost)

 

Gene recommend starting  gears    +8 Cylinder  ,  RTE EA5-6 with 3x HF / AS or AK (HF = Leech , AS = all around , AK = MVP) 

,  2x Chemical gloves  , +9 or 10 EDA  

 

(Seraphim , Temp ring + EA4 RM Temp Dex , high end gears should buy later when you can afford)

Mech require a lot of exclusive gears to be strong enough   but at late game  Gene better overall   PVM / MVP / ET / Instance / Bio5 etc

 

for Axe build  you need to stick with Tornado Axe because of spamming Axe Tornado with only 1 sec cooldown  

and +10 Work Cap , 2x Arquiens then good to go  

 

for Mado build     2x Supplementals  and the skill requirement for it's effect + Temp Dex  for insta cast Arm Cannon  and no consume Fuel

 

I recommend Axe build  because it's more user friendly  first thing to buy is Tornado Axe 

(+10 with True Howard of course  or if can't afford  have lower than +10 you can go for HF card for some leech chance)  

 

and Supplement Str + Con  then good to go

then buy Work Cap , Arquien  later   

 

leveling just spam Axe Tornado all the way  

 

 

 

Mado seems really weak and difficult to leveling at early / strong at end game   more expensive gears  

 

2x Supplemental Chips   , multiple Rock Step cards   

 

*Even Rock Step card price goes down because of High TI   you need  4 cards on Valk Hammer  to catch up with Gene's CC

 

and I think Mado is not a beginner friendly because when joining party  will make AB's colo heal bug   ,   annoying Overheat 

You need to pot / repair yourself   because AB can't heal Mech on Mado

 

and the main reason I hate this build is  Mech always lost Mado when death  you need to respawn and get new Mado every times  and  this is a problem when doing instance / ET

 

also require a lot of job levels for neccessary skills both for leveling , Supplemental chips / Work Cap effect   

 

 

somewhat Mado got some curse that  Arm Cannon  higher level = less AOE   lol 

(Level 2 have 5x5   Level 3 have 3x3)   when getting surround  need to spam Lv. 2 to hit all mobs 

 

if you want to play PVM class  , easy to leveling , easy to master   and can do instance / MVP as well    

 

I recommend  RK , Gene , WL , Ranger    (GX , Sorc are fine too...)

Gene better for PVM, Mech more useful for WOE, your choice depending on how you want to play this game.

As I said before if you want to go Mech on PVM go Axe build better

If you want Mado build I recommend to leveling with Axe build to max lv. / job then reset stat/skill for it

(Or get Mado skills when you have free skill points to Dump after you maxed all Axe skills for leveling , Work cap effect be a Hybrid Axe/Mado Str-Dex 120 so you can access gears for both builds)

Don't go Mado build at early base , job levels

Overall best build PVM Mech vs Gene is like

Mech for Melee (Axe Tornado)

Gene for Range (Cart Cannon)

mech mado has a much higher top end dps potential

Mado is better DPS of course  but on leveling  like I said  Mado is weak at early levels , not recommend to begin with

 

because it's require a lot of job levels to get Arm Cannon and all necessary skills

to access Supplemental chip effects or helping you   

 

Ex. Fire Earth research  for negate  Mado Fuel consume 

(Unless you have  Kick Step on Armor  to combo with Rock step card  so you can skip it and dump the skill points to other skills)

 

      Max Neutral Barrier for -30% delay 

 

     Repair for self heal 

 

      Pile Bunker , Axe boomerang  for Atk bonus from Chip / Work Cap   etc.

 

 

While Axe build 

 

Job Lv. 7 to get Axe Tornado > Get Maxed Axe boomerang for Atk+100 from Work Cap > Get maxed Axe mastery  rest = free skill points  

 

 

 

That's why I recommend to go Axe build first   after you're high level or job    (or just leveling to max level / job to be sure) then reset to Mado build later .....

it's as strong as how you back it up to be, much like any character/skill.

Gene all the way.(it covers the entire game). 

Mechs have limits on the game even if its 175 & I don't farm stuff for NPC's zeny anymore or even regret or miss all the items that I sold from my mech.

You can actually go mado all the way. Vulcan arm is a decent leveling skill if you still don't have enough skill points to go all in arm cannon. Lvl 3 only takes 5sp per spam. No fuel needed. Overheating is also not that much of a problem with leech gears based on my experience. Kick and kick card is also cheap so...
