I've been unable to get my password strength above medium, and now it's become some sort of game for me to try to come up with one so utterly complex and ridiculous that it gets to strong.

It just won't happen.

Even a password of sd8fa;;7a56iadfjvj``t9fkg';.afg didn't get me past medium. D:

Try hitting it, turning it on and off, or reversing the polarity?

I doubt that Gravity uses a complex regular expression to check password strenght. So, obviously, they solved the problem in a gravitish way: input password-> password has 70% chance being medium, 20% chance to be weak, 2% chance to be strong....

Commonly these days, even "1337 speak" words are included in Dictionary attacks.

This is how I create my passwords, and they are secure and easy to remember;

1) Think of a Keyword, ie, "Ragnarok" and a number, say "5".
2) Download Hashcalc
3) Perform a String Hash on the word Ragnarok - Converts it to "40d57ba713628f3f1ef5ef204b6d76d2"
4) Password max length for Ragnarok is 25 - "40d57ba713628f3f1ef5ef204"
5) Now with the number, replace every x'th value with symbols. - "40d5%ba71/628f|f1ef;ef20<"
6) Capitalize ever x-1'th letter. - "40d5%ba71/628F|f1eF;ef20<"

Do your own personalized variation of this, and as long as you use the same way every time, if you forget, you have an easy way to retrieve it as long as you remember the keyword and number.

Remember, the most common method of breaking your password is using common words from a predefined list, ie; "cat", "dog", "muffins"...etc..
Having a maximum length password of random numbers/letters/symbols will save you from any dictionary attack - as well as brute force attacks.

Now all you have to worry about is keyloggers and trojans that target password manager programs =)

A better question is: why do you care?

You get one point for:

  • password longer than 5 characters
  • password longer than 7 characters
  • lowercase and uppercase letter
  • digit
  • one of the following characters, as long as it's not the first character in the password: ! , @ # $ % ^ & * ? _ ~ ( )
(evidently whoever wrote this wasn't familiar with regular expressions)
Five points = strongest. Example of "strongest" password: 1aA@@@@@

I prefer the "gravity coding" response where it just says medium-strength no matter what the pass is. xD

How bout H@ckedN1ce

Or just do what I do and add a 1!@ after each word in a password...

Sweet, all i need to do is add that to the end of each word in my dictionary attack, and i'll have your account in no time.

But seriously, it's really unwise to post things like that!

Length 6 - 16 characters
Diversity : lower and upper case number and at least 1 symbol.

the diversity raises the parameter for "guessing" from
- 10 (all numb)
- 36 (numb + lower)
- 62 (num + lower + upper)
- ~ 254 (symbol + num + lower + upper)

diversity ^number of characters in the PW

so a 21 character number PW would be 1.0 x 10^21 power
1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000

a 10 character fully diversified PW is so it is shorter but more secure.
