The Kruxena race was created by the Nach race, to help in their losing war. They used Nach and Bartuk DNA. Since we don't know how the Nach really look, we can assume that the long metal arm and legs are Nach inherited. Rest of the body is Bartuk genes all in a smaller frame.

So the bosses in DS are just the spirits of some Nach possessing other dimensional creatures.
