Yes I think you should be able to upgrade the weapon/armor god items. The suggestion is to have it available as an option, much like how +20 gear is currently an option as well (technically this suggestion is a lot easier than +20 but meh).

God item + God item = God item+5
God item+5 + God item = God item+6
god item+6 + God item = God item+7
etc.....

There is no fail chance, success is 100%. to upgrade a particular god item, you need another of the same type. Bryn+bryn, Mjol+Mjol etc.

God items are too common on Ymir, and currently there is no "exit" for them to balance total/population, it just keeps growing. They never get outdated by new gears like other items. This suggestion allows you to take a step above the rest, and also helps address the swelling god item problem. You could vary the upgrade bonus from 1 to something higher, what would be balanced though? 5 Bryns = Bryn+20 is too cheap, but maybe that would be ok for the hammers.

Anything based on non-complete god items being used as a catalyst is not feasible because that would be too easy.

well, I'd rather fight 10 people with stronger god items that 50 people with strong god items. Once (ok if) all the current sets get made on Ymir that could well end up in a situation where you have a full guild (or 2) where EVERY member has their own 1.0 item (and proably a bryn too).

If we reach that point WoE essentially shuts down for good.
