We had a great deal of well written, greatly organized guides made by our helpful community members. Unfortunately we are only picking 6 winners this time around, but not to worry all those that submitted a COMPLETED guide will receive an awesome consolation prize once the voting is over AND have their guide moved into the official guide section of our forums. To those with [ Coming Soon] you have until 6/15 to complete your guide to receive the prize, and have your guide moved. Initially we were going to choose, one Guide from each category. However, due to some incomplete entries, WarpPortal team decided to pick the 6 best guides, and have you all pick the BEST overall guide.

On to the good stuff, VOTING YAY!

One vote per person*

Some things to consider when choosing the Best Overall Guide:
  • Thoroughness (How detailed is the guide?)
  • Presentation/Creativity (Did they include screenshots? did they include any special formatting in their guide[special fonts or images] etc)
To view the top 5 Guides:
Voting Ends 12pm PST 6/15

*As a word of warning, we will be monitoring IPs and WarpPortal accounts that vote during this poll. If any accounts are found creating multiple accounts in order to sway votes one way or another will result in suspension from the game and disqualification from participating in any future Dragon Saga or WarpPortal events.

I know my opinion isn't really valid at this point in the contest, but I just wanted to say that I wished image-heavy guides weren't favored over non-image heavy ones. Not to say that pictures don't add some flair and were easier to read, but I personally thought that using too many images made it difficult to impossible to update (guides should be easily edited when new content becomes available).

that's all i wanted to say, good luck to the people who made it as finalists ._.;;

That's why you save a psd....it actually took a lot faster to update my images compared to my text version..For psd files you just click the Text layers and change them...which is pretty easy to find!

Not to be rude or anything, but

To be completely honest, your guide was well written but didn't meet the parameters of what we were looking for in a top guide. If you look at many of the top 5(now 6) you'll see image heavy, stylized fonts, and personal flair. Though your guide may have been Through, the presentation left something to be desired. Now this is not to say your guide was terrible, and that you wont receive anything for your trouble and hard work. You'll still get the consolation prize, as well as have your guide moved into the guides section.

I see that my image usage is on par with the top guides and I do have stylized fonts. Forgive me for not wanting to write my guide with all the colors of the rainbow. If having a picture of a tiny skill icon for each skill is what contributes to an image heavy and aesthetically pleasing guide, I'll gladly throw that in with only 5 minutes of my time. I'm not too sure what you mean by personal flair, but I do not see any mention of that in the guidelines.

Those extra 5 minutes, may have made the difference or maybe not, at this point its moot. Yurai, better luck next time.

It wasn't the image files that put anyone as a favorite. It was the content and how content was proposed. Several factors were placed into the decision making process such as:

-What was the guide about?
-Did the content in the guide support the type of guide it was about?
-Was it thorough?
-How was it organized? (links in the Table of Content, easy to see or read, information flow)
-Was there creativity with the way the guide was made? (Were there images? How are the images used in reference to the content? Was there any special formatting? Was there anything that the other guides didn't use that helped?)
-Was the person's opinion placed in the guide? (Was it useful to the guide? Was it correct? Was it attractive to a new player?)

According to Hastur, my guide was not chosen due to not being image-heavy. With the guidelines that you have written right here, my guide follows every bullet point. I cannot help but feel that there is some kind of bias going on here. Comparatively to the other top 6 guides, it is not the best, but it certainly is not lacking compared to them.

I understand, I wasn't saying that image-heavy ones were terrible (they were very nice), I just found it a little odd that they seemed so favored. Not necessarily by you or the people judging, I meant by the community...some people even re-edited their text guides to make it completely image-only, which baffled me because I was like, "How is this going to be edited when new content comes in?"

But yah that's just me ._.;;

This still is 100% popularity contest :\.. . .QQ i wish i was popular now.
Seriously though, i think next events shouldn't be a popularity contest... After all, my guide got over 200 downloads for the offline version, and no person ever thanked me for my guide...The thing is when people use guides, they use it only. Voting upon the community just doesn't make sense to see which guide is the "best over all"

You're accusing Hastur of something he did not say. He said it may have made a difference. We found that the current 6 that are in the voting were the top 6 from the guides that were submitted.

Yurai, I did NOT say that, please do not put words in my mouth. what i did say was:

i did not say it was due to your lack of being image heavy, i said your presentation left something to be desired. I did not go into specific detail.

Now if you have a feeling we are being biased, you are entitled to your opinion and conspiracy theories. We cannot prevent that, all we can do is say, we hold no bias against you or anyone else on the forums or ingame. Whether you choose to believe it is up to you.

Either way, no point in beating a dead horse Yurai.

Prior to the "presentation left something to be desired", you stated that the top 6 guides were image heavy, had stylized fonts, and personal flair. Once again, my guide is on par with the image usage from the other guides, and contained stylized fonts. I cannot say anything about the personal flair since I'm not sure exactly what you mean by that, but it certainly was not mentioned as part of the criteria for being a top guide. That said, my guide follows every single bullet point that was mentioned as a selection criteria, and as such, I do not understand the original reason for having no selection from each category (incomplete guide), nor can I see how my guide lacks based on the bullet points provided by both the original contest guidelines, as well as what Aramis just posted.

Forgive me for being stubborn, but I do not see how my guide lacks in the required content and presentation compared to the guides that were chosen. As such, I feel that there is a selection bias. I did not say anything about a conspiracy theory. If you must, please do go into specifics about the selection process. Is my font not readable? Is my information not organized coherently? Is there no easy method to jump from one section to another? Is there not adequate information? Is the information inaccurate? Am I lacking personal opinions on the subject I wrote about? Does my guide not adequately cover all the information required for my topic?

Please enlighten me because the reason provided for not choosing a guide from each section was due to guides being incomplete. Now, it's about my guide lacking in something that I believe that I provided sufficient and adequate amounts of. I hope you can see why I'm arguing my position here.

To be honest , your guide is too image heavy, the background of some of the earlier parts of the guide reminded me of Geocities in the mid 90s, and you tried to push every single fact in a General Guide and it lacked the amount of organization of the other General Guide by FaithX.

Again, your guide is not what we were looking for, hence why it was not chosen. I'm sorry i cannot spend anymore time explicitly telling you all the reasons why yours was not chosen, i have other tasks to attend to. Please don't be a poor sport about this friendly competition and let it go.

Lets not turn this thread into a "your guide sucks because..." or "my guide is better because..." . Lets keep the comments friendly and the votes coming. If this continues to be an issue, we will remove posting rights and leave it as an empty poll. (Please don't make me do that, i like seeing comments and nice words about our community members)

To be honest I disliked all the image heavy guides. For one the load is horrible and for two it makes getting to certain parts of the guide via the Ctrl-F function impossible since it looks through only text and not images. When looking for a guide although images are nice it's not in the least bit helpful if I just want to know one thing and want to be able to get to that one thing with ease. Have you ever seen an image-heavy walkthrough?

This
and
tbh this poll seems a bit unfair. I mean 2 general guide, 2 archer guides, 1 WM guide, and 1 Dragoon guide. It makes more sense to me for a guide in each category( General, Archer, Thief, Warrior, Mage) to get a spot in finalist then vote out of those chosen as the best presented guide.

I never said that other people's guides sucked, nor did I say my guide was better, and it is not my intention to turn this thread into such a thing. I am stating that my guide met the requirements and is similar in content and presentation to the top guides chosen, yet the original guideline of having 1 winner per category was unfulfilled.

Correct and spot on, as we did not want anyone to be given a place by default. Though content is different, the guide process is similar. Being given a place by default does not prove to be an adequate, friendly competition that displayed guide making talents.
