Where to start, I suppose gear and stats:

+7 Red Wing Hat of Creator
Robo Eye
Well Chewed Pencil
Lucky Fluke Saint's Robe
+5 Diligent Hurricane Fury
Strenuous Shoes
Robust Clip
(Yes, that's the Alchemist set)
+4 Strange Flame Mantel of Naght Sieger/Low Level Skin of Ventus(Using Flame Mantel attm)
Green Apple Ring/Glorious Ring (Green Apple giving biggest benefit at the moment)
(Yes, I'm a melee build)

80 str
100 agi
60 dex
1 everything else

I've reset TWICE already. I tired with vit instead of agi, I've tried with int instead of str. Decided to go back to meleeing things. I only have Cart Remolding at 3 and Cart Cannon at 2 right now - partly because I tried following the only 'guide' to Gens here. But I don't have the option of leaching this character for job levels. I pretty much don't have friends on iRO, and the guild I'm in is dead. And TIs won't have me.

So, how am I supposed to level? As you can see from the gear, I'm not rich (not after getting that HF). And the genetic guide is rather useless to me (like I said, leaching job levels wasn't an option so it's quite lacking in the 100/1 -> 100/11 department).

I dislike using my homun because of various reasons, but it's a 90... something bird. Haven't used him in a while. He's not that useful on level 100+ mobs.

Thoughts? Opinions?

Guess I'll give you some input.

With your current stats, gears and skills, its probably best for you to mammo level at magmarings for a while (preferably with water endow). This is to get your first few job levels. Once you have max remodel and cart cannon, you can start at nogg, but you'll most likely have to reset to vit, and get better gears to be able to survive there. The hurricane fury is pretty much the only weapon you'll ever need for leveling though.

You'll most likely be at nogg for a very long time (125ish), if you're not doing turn-ins that is. Lastly, you should read the irowiki forums, as there's a lot more detailed info on where and how to level in the merchant class section, and I rarely ever check these forums to answer any questions. Well, if you were in Valk, I could help you. I need leeches for my genetic anyways.

If you asked me for a build, well... TRADE ALL YOUR AGI FOR INT.

A 50 STR + 50 INT + 205 ATK + CR 2 + CC 1 gives only 1k damage.

And homun... Use him as a puller/target. If the monster does not change target, it is pretty easy to make homunculus pull instead of yourself. And the same if he can only tank.

Without VIT... Well, you may not want to "stay" in the mob after you fire a cannon. Flywing after firing cannons in nogg.

I am not a specialist. Correct me if necessary please.

I'm not a specialist either, but patchouli, why ATK 205? I readed +5 Diligent Hurricane Fury (332 + 30 + 25 = 387) as her weapon, so the WeapATK should be much higher, not to mention the ATK from the cannon balls (at least +100 and at most +250)

As I realized, Meleeing seems to be no longer effective at all for genetics due to CC's nature. They in almost all of the cases have no AGI and they put INT instead, due to CC and some other skills like Hell Plant. Plus high DEX for CC's cast time.

Frankly, I'd wish that STR/AGI/DEX were to be useful again, but alas...

With Hurricane, the damage output is supposed to be higher, but it may be lower due to the lower INT.

If Genetics were supposed to be good at melee though... They would have mods [hp/sp/aspd/gears] close to mechanics~~~~~ They are made to spam skills [just check the SP mod /ok]

That's what explains why the alchemists were somewhat decent in meleeing, in fact, they had exactly the same mods than blacksmith (HP & SP, alchies are somewhat slower with 2h axe and faster with 1h sword, compared with smiths)... until they reach 3rd class...

Actually, I don't look at them as made just to spam skills, but to mob leveling .

I guess I should mention I got to Gen as a Cart Revo Vit build.

But I read around and all I hear is Cart Cannon this and that.

But Cart Cannon is worthless when you first get it (CR 2, CC 1). <- (Went Str, Int, Dex for that when I tried it)

I have CR 3 and CC 2 right now, but I still need job levels to finish those off.

And meleeing as a 3rd isn't cutting it.

So, recapping, I've tried Int, Vit, Str. Nothing is really working for me. I'll get some converters and try mammoing magmarings like Loki suggested, I suppose, and see how that goes. Thank you for your input.

It is worthless until you max it, as much as lots of third class skills are.

Until job 10, only repeat what you did as alch/biochemist. When Cannon is maxed, then you can use it properly. If you were still 99, I would tell you to do the Eden signboard things, or go leech in a turnin. Use your homunculus to pull, or pull them by yourself, geneticists are not SO useless at low jobs.

Just got my Bio to Gene just a few days ago and ive been doin decent damage with CC using this stat build 59 str 109int 80dex, I only use a +7 diligent Giant Axe which is rated below the Hurricane Fury you are using. But i do 10-11k damage using VIP buffs and Priest buffs in parties. Just try to max out your CC level and Cart Remodelling.

That's what I'm trying to do, Kirsten. I don't have the job levels to support that yet. (100/6 right now) It's kind of the point of the thread. I should of titled it something like, "How do I GET Cart Cannon without having a leach for job levels?"

Sadly, asayuu, I'm 100. I was stupid and tired to level my houmn with me (detest afk levelers and leveling), and when a homun gets the last hit in with, say, a 2k special, well, you get very little job xp. I was a 99/43 Biochem when I hit 99. >.>; Put it away and cart revo'ed everything from then on. I know how nice that can be, though, as I have a baby RK that's 100/11 because of that.

I've been told to get better gear. Alright, like what? I have an Orlean's for later. Sprint and Valk shoes, Valk mant, +7 Skull Cap, it's just that I'm not Cart Cannoning yet so, yeah.

I was tryin to tell u that ur stat build is wrong if ur using CC even. str doesnt give much damage to CC, INT does. at your level you should have 99 int 59 str and 60-80 dex for your CC to do damge even at level 1. People would love to have u as a killer in Gramps TI and in Nogg, with a hurricane Fury at level 1 u should be doin 4k on mobs atleast. You should have read the full reply and tried to pick somethin up first. I have a friend whose got worst gears than u but shes doin just fine. Your lucky to have a HF coz thats gona be ur bread and butter for leveling using CC.

You should have read the full reply and tried to pick something up first.

*I* should read? Maybe you didn't catch that I've reset back to a melee build, hence the stat distribution. You didn't help at all on how to get job levels to make cart cannon useful.

By the way, with CR at 2 and CC at 1 with HF I was doing ~3k to Magmarings when I had 100 int and 60 str. Which isn't that good.
