As you'll see, the findings in this article are mostly based on user behaviors and trends on a social avatar site called TinierMe. (TM is a bit like Gaia Online, only cuter and more fun, plus it has Madoka, Black Butler, and Vocaloid items, among others.) I found the article pretty interesting and I thought I'd share it with everyone.
(I know it's a bit old, but still. If you have nothing better to do, you should check it out.)

It's like a knockoff of gaiaonline so really the only way to win is to get all the coins you'd ever need lol
it bored me to death tbh o.o
i made one friend and was like wait... delete me--im bored.

I started playing Gaia during it's first month and I eventually went on to sell my account. It landed over $2,500. Had I started it later though, it would have been pretty damn near impossible to amass anything without losing my entire paycheck on it.
They can be fun, but I totally out grew that kind of thing. I like dress up and all, but those sites are pretty juvenile. TinierMe is cute, but I just like messing about with the simulators. I find that way I get to do all the fun stuff without having to waste time acquiring any of it,

Personally I just enjoy doing the events and playing dress-up every once in a while. I'm not terribly active there otherwise.
I also play TinierCafe on Facebook...but honestly, these are for when I have small (or unknown-length) blocks of time for gaming. I play more fun, combat-oriented games (like RO) when I know I'll have plenty of consecutive hours to blow.

I'm pretty active on TM and atgames (Japanese TM).
I've always kinda noticed these differences already though...
Most of the atgames diaries people post aren't very personal but on TM, I know so much about people's personal life rofl.
I've spent too much money on TM though... haha. OTL
My SN on TM is Nicolas if anyone wants to friend me.

Honestly though, I don't think I could see myself spending real money on an avatar site...all the G-Coins I earned were from offers. Lol
I'm in the Ragnarok Online group on TM. Search its members for JustDez and you'll probably see me :3

Before I had a job I was /obsessed/ with doing offers.
I seriously have... at least 20 mules because of that. OTL
But since I've gotten a job I've gotten like... three CS's.
I guess I'm on TM enough to call it a hobby that I can spend some money on. 8D;
