Is there any way to tank better than a Suras Mental Strength? I enjoy being a defensive class but it seems like in every aspect this skill seems to kick me to the curb. So far I've only seen Sura classes as the definite/preferred tank class and I'd like some help with hopefully giving me the capabilities to reduce damage from every monster, including MvPs, to around 10% dmg.

So far Defending Aura takes care of ranged attacks, Guard to block 30% of atks, Shield spell and Prestige to increase defense and 30%ish probability to negate magic. MS still has the benefit of reducing all damage to 1/10 so if i get hit with magic or a strong melee atk it'll hurt a lot more. HP aids in that category but when you're trying to tank an MvP spamming skills/magic on you, MS still has the advantage...

I'm looking for advice to become a better tank and hopefully not get flamed to death in the long run. RG's specialize in defensive capabilities but it seems like a true tank is Sura's calling. I'm hoping to compare or even bypass that somehow. Thanks for your help

i think alot of classes can, it just depends on their builds, i mean i used to tank on my AB, but then again i havent play it in a while

Yup. You can TRY to be "as good" as the Sura tanking (and are not all too likely to succeed), but the combination of the two classes is the best tank.

Well remember your defence skills carry through sac as well, so as well as MS they're gettig guard/DA etc.

That's the best best way. And they get crit wounds, you don't, since you're the one taking heals, you're increasing that tanking ability a least 10x

MS Sura with Dark Lord shoe is so fun to play.

having done ET with sac+sura its the best way to control high end MVPS. The sac helps the sura stay alive long enough to re cast MS and the RG stays away from the MVP so he tanks less damage from the mob. RG also stays close to the party this makes the ABs/Stringer job easier as they can focus on healing the RG rather then having to heal themselves from AOE non sense.

For me, I think I'd actually prefer an RG tank, at least when it comes to normal partying and leveling. Sura is nice, but they just move way too slow while in MS. If we're talking about tanking for some of those really hard hitting MVPs, then yeah, I would say MS tank is what I'd want.

RG can get Mental-Str like defense same as Sura's, 600~700 w/proper set up (this is my current main's build) its just other skills that ignores DEF still can kill both class.

Personally, I can tank better on RG bc of DA-S.Spell-VF-Prestige-Guard and got also Sacrifice w/helps precaster squishies. /no1

In WOE, RG tanking is fun.

And keep in mind that Mental Strength comes at a huge price. For one, the speed is decreased, as mentioned, and also they can't use active skills when they're in MS (only passive skills). In other words, they will reduce received damage better than you, but you will, by far, be able to dish out damage better than them.

If other classes could get as good reduction as an MS sura, it would nullify the usefulness of the MS skill, so I think the designers intended it to be the way that it is. Bottomline: Just be happy that you can both DPS and tank at the same time, rather than being unhappy that you get hit harder than a Sura using Mental Strength (which is what I'm detecting from your posts). Also, as Ramen said above, you're going to be much better at tanking in most parts of the game. Mental Strength is limited in where it can be appropriately utilized. You'll only really see it in ET (for certain MVPs) and Bio3. Everywhere else, you're the better tank. Heck, even in ET you're often the better tank, at least for the weaker MVPs and monsters.
