Welcome to ragnarok! This is one of the best open mmorpgs out there. (Make your self a merchant to get your bank/vender set up) As for for first character Archer and Theif were my favorite first classes to play. Happy leveling!

to do list for new players:
You need 3 characters on 3 separate accounts. A vendor (merchant class), a main (any class that can kill fast at end game level for hunting purposes) and a warper (acolyte class, can also be heal slave)
I guess if you want to start out as a monk, you can avoid the last step, as you can be both a main and a warper XD
