The moment victim buys from Merchant1 Person1 IMMEDIATELY Logs off Merchant2 (or Both Merchants)

Victim was unable to sell to merchant2 Since Person1 Logged of his Merchants

OP said "unable to sell due to $$ exceeding limit..."
In other words, the buy shop had a zeny limit that was lower than the amount it was offering for the item. You wouldn't have been able to "trick" them by selling BBs you already had. OP would have seen this if he'd bothered to check, but he acted rashly due to wanting to make a quick buck by taking advantage of a (seemingly) vulnerable buyer. Just deserts, IMHO.

Follow simple principles like not buying items for double their actual value and you won't be "scammed."

Wow. An online adaptation of the "fiddle game."

This con, as many do, relies on the inherent dishonesty of the mark. An honest mark, upon the first man's return, will hand over both card and instrument, leaving the partners out the cost of two dinners, but still in possession of the violin. The other response, and the one the con artists hope for, is the dishonest man's.

That said, it's still a scam. TANSTAAFL.

Lol I really didn't blame that guy since it was totally my fault for being greedy, but for those poor people who thought they could earn 8mil in a few seconds, of course they would've rushed it and do it.
But anyways, after my mistake, I saw some other people suddenly opening shops selling ONLY 1 bloody branch for 4-5mil (+100%~+150%) right next to the B> shop and they were immediately sold out...although it is our fault for being greedy but I don't like seeing so many other ppl getting tricked too =(

How can you call this a scam?
I mean, he tricked him yes. But was there anything wrong in his way? No.
The buyer should have been more alert. :|

Scam:
a confidence game or other fraudulent scheme, especially for making a quick profit; swindle.

Not really. I sell random crap for random prices because I don't know what it's actually worth.

How does one name and shame an alt account? Gotta love Internet anonymity.

it would be a scam if it can be proven that there was an intention to cheat (in this case, that they're related). And from you've said about the logging out timings, they probably are.

Overpricing NPC gears is unethical but I personally don't see anything wrong with it. Caveat emptor. Unlike the former case, it only takes a couple seconds of database searching to get info. If you're new to the game then it's understandable that you wouldn't know where to look. But if you're seasoned and can't be bothered to do something simple like that then you ought to be taken for a bloody deserved ride.

The latest H Backpack/Poring Pet Backpack discourse seems to indicate that being unethical = a ban.

EDIT: THere is a primary factor that can escalate this further into a scam.. and that is if Merchant1 is selling his item OVERPRICED, and Merchant2 is Buying it EVEN more Overpriced.

Qoute by Myz: I used to do the same thing

Qoute by Myz again: That's not really a scam

Nice one Myz... nice one :thumb:

dont let me monitor you (if your) in Ymir

This is a prime example of why you should wear a helmet when riding your bike.

What ever you say.. it is still fundamentally and morally wrong.. you cheat players off their money and will ruin a lot of new (noob) players.. and it is not healthy for a F2P game like Ragnarok.

If you play morally lopsided then go Lineage2

I wonder if it's still a scam if you don't set up any selling vends. I'd like to raise some hopes by pretending to buy some desocketing books.

Selling NPC goods higher than the non-discounted price has always been bannable, all the way back to beta.

Except when you only mark it up because your providing an easier out of the way service to people.

Before all those Gunslinger NPC's started showing up. I never saw a problem with people marking up bullets or cartridges(or even arrow quivers) in prontera. Because screw Einbroch. Or setting up shops in front of a dungeon(not that i see people do that anymore).

Discount. =p
Technically you're not supposed to do it, but if it's out of the way for consumables, yeah, it has to cover travel costs somewhat too.

I don't have access to Mora, so I buy Elf Arrow Quivers for 250% the NPC price (factoring in the quivering cost and a generous DC skill). It's a willing transaction with both parties fully aware of the price differential.

But sell a stunner for 2.5 times its DC-ed price and people may/will/could scream blue murder. We can't argue on the basis of effort since how much effort's put into it is subjective to the price one feels the effort is worth.

Stunner dude could be a new level 40 merchie player who sees what's going on with the arrows and thinks what he's doing is acceptable.

I honestly do not get it. Who draws the line on what's acceptable and what's not? If the stunner's sold for 1.2 times the price would that make it "less" bannable?

If I sell NPC goods higher than the NPC price because a monster dropped it or it was simply forgotten in my storage and I had no idea what the actual price was, and I got banned for it, I would definitely:

1) Complain to customer service
2) Want some sort of compensation for my inconvenience

It's not my job to check the databases every time I sell something that I don't even expect to sell anyway. That's up to the buyer, if they care.

I thought you were a law abiding god fearing citizen.

Besides, it's only when people are blatently abusing it. It's why the rule exists. For cases of abuse

quivers shouldn't count, since they're not directly NPC goods?

If anything the OP should be banned because if they had succeeded in selling the DBs they would have ripped off the buyer more than they are currently ripped off. The OP should be banned for trying to scam the buyer.

Totally taken out of context. RO rules = the law? At any rate, point me to the section in the terms of use or elsewhere (I haven't found ANY other rules posted anywhere, actually) where this rule is actually officially posted for all to see. :)

Players selling items (Dark Crystal Fragments, Poring Backpacks) whose sprites resembled that of vendable kafra items (Reset Stones, Adventurer's backpacks) were suspended, other forms of trade scams are also punishable. The buyer will not receive a refund but we can investigate. Cases of selling NPC bought items at a higher price as a convenience surcharge is easily separated from cases of bunco swindling.
