hi xD does anyone know where the inspiration for all the monsters of ragnarok online comes from? Various mythology? I was wondering particularly about Shelters. Does anyone have any clue?

Mistress of Shelter? It is one of four that 'counterbalance' Thanatos' Agony, Hatred, Despair and Misery.

Dame of Sentinel
Lady Solace
Baroness of Retribution
Mistress of Shelter

Of course, a lot of things get 'lost in translation' so names are probably not perfect. Most of the monsters are based off of Norse mythology, though others may be from mythology in other parts of the world.

Thanatos is Greek by the way. A symbolism of death.

Poring is certainly a 'shout-out' to Slimes.

Yes, Thanatos is Greek... Though in Ragnarok, he does not seem to be the personification of death like he's supposed to be. From what I gather in-game, he was a hero who fought against Satan Morroc but ended up being corrupted by his evil. The tower originally appeared with Satan Morroc and monsters came from it... It was just renamed Thanatos Tower in honor of him. When Rekenber began restoring the tower after its rediscovery the ghosts of Thanatos and his enmity appeared... And that's about all I know.

I remember that thread. It's mind-blowing.

Bapho is a pagan deity and I think Greatest Generals are actually based off funerary markers in Korean culture, but I can't find where I saw/read about them.

Moscovia monsters are based off Russian folklore. The old RuRO names were actually more accurate ("Uzhas" was "Kikimora" and "Wood Goblin" was "Leshij", which are the actual names of the creatures the monsters are based off: a swamp hag and a forest spirit that's an old man. "Uzhas" means "Horror", literally).

Gopinich (Gorinich in ruRo) is based off Zmey Gorinich, a dragon with three heads who was usually set as a guardian of treasure. All his heads have different personalities and constantly argue between each other.

Koschei the Immortal from that one instance was an old man whose death was sealed up in a needle in an egg in a tree in a bunch of other places. He'd kidnap princesses. I'm kind of sad he didn't get his own sprite and they just reused the Gorinich sprite. They could have designed something baller.

Baba Yaga is probably the most famous one, the witch who has a house with chicken legs (she argues with it a lot, since it never goes the direction she wants it to go). She flies around in a mortar and steers with a pestle.

I've looked up the monsters in the other extended countries for global project, and it's just really cool how much research Gravity puts into this stuff.

Also not quite related but "Regenschirm" is German for "Umbrella", which is a really cool nod.
