quick question, is there any other purpose of turning head gear to costume other than for vanity ?

They're usually just for looks/ However costume hats can have stat bonuses just like any other kind of equipment (for example, the costume cake hat gives +50 SP). There are very few like this (for obvious game balance reasons), but they do exist.
