Some Questions About Being a Merchant.

I just started playing a merchant (and Ragnarok Online) a few days ago, and I have a few starter questions about the merchant class.
I need to know what are the best stats to spend my skill points in? I know thieves would use agi/dex, but I have no clue what to spend my stat points on.
Should I put them in str? Since the merchant class does start off with an axe, so melee must be a big part of the merchants combat.
Another question I have is, I noticed onrenewal.playragnarok.com the merchant has some quests that you receive from the merchant trainer. Well the merchant trainer gave me the merchant job, but I never received any of the quests. Do I need to be a certain level in order to get these quests?
I also was wondering about some of my class skills require quests in order for me to gain access to the abilities, how do I know where to go for these?
Any help would be wonderful

Are you on classic, or one of the other servers? Makes a difference for stats.
rms is a site dedicated to illegal private servers. Information from rms is not accurate to iRO or other official ROs; do not use it.
Use irowiki.org for accurate iRO information. There is a merchant training quest (started from a different NPC), but it has a thoroughly disappointing time-to-reward ratio, and most people don't do it. http://irowiki.org/w..._Training_Quest
Quest skills are listed on irowiki http://irowiki.org/w...ant_Skill_Quest

Ahh...I had no idea.. I am on one of the other servers, I believe the newest one with the lowest pop on it.
Thank you very much for the links, I will check them out.

For skills, I'd probably race for vending and get a few levels of that to sell the useful items you find (save those strawberries and grapes, for example, and vend them).
By jobchange, you want lvl 10 IWL, 10 pushcart, and some combination of DC, OC, and vending.
Alchemist vs blacksmith doesn't have a huge impact on proper stat distribution pre-trans - the two classes end up getting played pretty similarly.
