The key is not to die, and you proceed to next rounds by killing monsters, not players.

Wait, so what your saying is. If a monk focuses on killing monsters our chances go up severely? XD

I don't know if this the best build but I got to 25 relatively fast about 12 hours of play time with no dungeons and all solo. Int up to 30 points. Skill: renovatio lv3->otario lv1, asperio lv3-> judex lv1-> oratio lv5, hl lv5-> heal lv4. Honestly renovation 22% heal suffices its really op. Monk I went 30/37/30 str/agi/int respectively.

Is 1 in intimidation really okay? I ask because ive heard that you can chain taunts with other tanks to generate free agro

intimidation only set you up over person with top threat by some (pretty low) amount of threat.
i think 5 points not worth 12 sec reduction

Is Flee worth investing points? I'm still not sure about it.

If you're planning to become a full-fledged tanker, definitely yes.

You could alternate between Ki and Flee whenever one is on cooldown

it could be 33 str/int 32 vit or you can even try 36 str/int 25 vit.

(you will read that a monk str/int should always be even, in terms of point distribution 40 str 32 int is the same as 36 str 36 int with the same benefit)

I personally don't think flee is worth it. Even with 37agi I only get 8% with flee its 9% I think points are better spent on summon spirit sphere for faster protection ki but that's my opinion. Always use summon spirit sphere right after protection ki.

flee lvl 5 will give you +20% dodge, meaning if you have 8% dodge, if you will use flee, it will be 28% dodge, flee has been very beneficial to me...

However, considering it's short duration, bar boss AoE there is very little reason to use it because you just can't get things done during it's duration.

I'm a new monk myself. Just changed a week ago and I spent all my points to get offensive skills first. Then, I found out that I can't survive well, spent a lot of potions, and unable to level up fast. I realized that I need Steel Body in order to survive. So I reset my skills on lvl 25 (silly of me) and get Steel Body ASAP. Since then, my PvE is a lot easier.

Do you have any tips or advice for a monk on PvE? Things like what skills you often use in PvE, how you control your monk, etc. I find myself use Throwing Spirit Sphere, Raging blow and Heavy tackle a lot. I rarely use Ki Explosion on normal fight. I only use it on Boss fight. How do you guys play your monk?

I like TESO ava, waiting for it come out also :no1:
that will be your rotation for a while till you lower the cooldown on your skills, depending on your build, I also use ki protection a lot when I was soloing/leveling up, especially in your 35-50 where the cooldown is 2 mins you save yourself some downtown and pots, and gfist and fury when ever it is up for me.

In PVE, i firmly believe that we monks are the most ideal main tanks, and these are my reasons,

1st, tho we lack spammable AOE skills like Knights's Grand Cross, our main role is to be the Main Tank, and so as Main Tank, our only responsibility is the Main Boss itself and let the mobs be taken care of by the off tankers.(Normally, a raid party is always composed of 1 Main tank and 1 Off tank, 4 DPS, 2 Sorcs,2 Priests).

2nd, with our 2 percentage-based passive increase defense skills, we have the highest potential for having the highest defense in game, since our skills are percentage based, our defense increase exponentially as our armors upgrade.

3rd, As main tanks, it is our responsibility to maintain the highest threat in the raid party, and with our 300% threat buff from Steel Body and Throw Sphere-Fury Explosion-Asura combo skill plus Summon Spirit sphere to recast the combo for another round, we can assure that the boss won't be facing any of your party members but you alone,(well except from some raid bosses that were built to attack randomly in some occasions).

In PVP, sorry to tell you this guys, but Monks are the least built for it, there are so many factors base from my experience that I have concluded this statement, but I firmly believe that in the long run, Monks would be given better PVP potential, RO2 is still in new and in development stages. For now, we just have to rely on our own PVP skills and talents as players :P

Lastly, these are just my 2 cents, I dont claim anything but just shared knowledge based on experience. GO GO monk!

Yep, this is true !

As my experience (im 45 already) I went to the 4th round last colo :) (with an average of 3 rounds).
And i enjoy to do some azuras to ks :D (best hit 5.7k)

But people don't look for a 13k HP character so they don't attack ^^ , you can kill mobs peacefully
I believe in the agi monk in the future ! GOGO Monks !

Yeah exactly, that is the only advantage we have in colo, our high hp and high defense rate, which makes us the least target in Colosseum but players are now smarter, when they see you killing mobs in the corner, they wont hit you, but will kill steal your mobs instead for they know that we monks have the least dps without our Asura combo. And yes, the best thing to do is practice how to last hit people in colo with asura strike, but it is not that easy, with 1 min cd of the skill, there are lots of unlucky circumstances where your asura gets parried or misses, but the saddest experienced I had was to deal only 900 damage on a knight with my Monk having Colo weapon and armor already.... Despite of all frustrations in PVP, i never regret choosing Monk as my class. PVP is not the only reason why people play MMORPG's anyway, it is the bond that is created over time with friends, guild mates from doing a simple quest in a party to a major Dungeon Raid, the lack of PVP potential is well compensated in having the capability to be a good tanker in all of my dungeon raids so far, giving us unforgettable memories and the feeling of success and contentment. So GO GO MONKS!

I could use some advice. My monk is 35 with 29 STR and 30 INT. The current skills are :
http://www.ro2base.c...0.1.1/0.0.0.0.0

What should I increase next? Also, what are my roles in party dungeon? I'm not sure I have the skills to control my monk in party dungeon because I mostly play dps class before this (Mage Class) which is quite simple to control.
Another thing is, what card is better for my monk, Gremlin card, Miho Card, Phyton card, or what?

Lastly, I'm curious how much defense you have once you're 40-50? Mine is 34% now with Steel Body on.

You need to get Intimidation and then Summon Spirit Sphere ASAP. Then Max Protection Ki, and after max Summon Spirit Sphere, and finally put the rest into Intimidation for faster and better aggro control.

As for stats you can either go 33/33/32 or 40/40/8 (STR/INT/VIT). These dont matter too much, The first will give you 200 more hp with steel body on and the second will give you 28 more attack power. What ever floats your boat.

Also, what are my roles in party dungeon? I'm not sure I have the skills to control my monk in party dungeon because I mostly play dps class before this (Mage Class) which is quite simple to control.

Your role in dungeons is to keep the agro of the boss, meaning keep the boss on you at all times. Sometimes the boss will stop attacking you and it will attack your teammates, thats when you use intimidation, however sometimes the boss still wont leave them alone, just keep attacking the boss until it switches back to you. Naturally from attacking the boss you will gain great threat which will draw his attention to you, this is due to steel bodys effects which causes u to generate 300% more threat with each attack than without steel body.

Learn the boss and find the best times to use Protection KI to better protect yourself from hard hitting boss attacks. You should also have summon spirit sphere so that it resets Protection KI so that you can use it again for another 10 seconds.

The best way to generate and keep agro is just keep attacking the boss with as much damage as you can. It works better than spamming lightning crush. Throw spirit sphere at Boss to debuff him, then use crushing blow, (if you miss and dont have all spirits, use raging quadriple palm until you do) Cast fury and keep attacking the boss with : Raging Raging Ragin F, Raging Crushing F, and Repeat until your fury is near end, throw spirit sphere again and ASURA the boss. If your protection ki is up, use it, else use Summon spirit sphere to reset it and asura.

Repeat this process untill the boss is dead. Remember you are the bada** tank whos up in the bosses face ***kin -_- up. lol

Remember to keep the bosses attention, your healer should be healing you.

Another thing is, what card is better for my monk, Gremlin card, Miho Card, Phyton card, or what?

Which ever card gives the best balance of STR INT VIT, use that card. Aim for str and vit if you cant get all 3 stats.

Lastly, I'm curious how much defense you have once you're 40-50? Mine is 34% now with Steel Body on.

The way your defence affects your defence rate decreases as you level up, thanks to the formula, but to answer your question it will stay around 30 - 40 % unless you have the best of the best all refined to +10 or something lol.

ibelieve you are wrong: there were info that flee doesn't give you flat 20% but 20% from your current flee statistics.
so if you already got 8% it will became 10%

Lightning walk is more of a pvp skill. If you plan on constantly chasing people up in pvp/colo then I guess it's ok.

However, your dps will suffer. And you may have trouble holding aggro since you have less damage (unless you plan on potting for aggro or using intimidation frequently), but then again, the standard monk build isn't any different, just max Quad Palm instead of lightning walk and that's your standard monk build :P

Really though, outside of colo or pvp, you may be better off just maxing quad palm. But that's in my opinion, go with whatever floats your boat, there are skill reset scrolls :P

Hi,

I've played a tanking monk for a week or so and just acquired my full RHD set yesterday with a few epic items.
I love how the monk combo looks (so cool) but the casting animation is terrible imo XD. More than a few times where I had raised my hand to prepare the Gfist and by the time it landed, my opponent was already dropped dead (in about 1s)... Even worse, I dealt damage to the death body (RIP) and the cd trigger ... I got to the last round once, usually end up in round 3 and in unlucky day couldnt get pass the first round.

I think flee works but since it depends on luck so much I dont like it, also the duration is only 10s per 60s tanking. I max lightning walk for pvp purpose and lighting crush instead since i'm usually the only tanker in the team, I want to tank MB and adds altogether sometimes. Lighting crush and heavy tackles would keep them in check long enough for your dps to finish them off.

Too much words now, over and out :heh: ,
Grey

P/S: I kind of miss the old monk in RO1, ASURA KO and then disappear like a wind :heh: .
