I have a Mechanic who I don't really use anymore, so would like to revert it back to a 99/70 Mastersmith so I can upgrade items with him. Is this possible? Or would I have to remake the character entirely...

After Job Level 50, the user's Job Level increases the Success Rate by 0.5% each versus the NPC, up to 10%. However, the Job Level applied is Mastersmith job level. When the player promotes to Mechanic class, the game will use their Job Level as Mastersmith when performing this skill. (e.g. The user was Level 99/69 Mastersmith, then promoted to Mechanic and starting over from Job Level 1. The game will still use Job Level 69 when doing this skill).

About OP: No, is not possible.
About irowiki, I didnt test this, not sure if it works, there are many things that must be tested and proven, since I see many condensed brewer as Biochemist, not geneticist, must be for something. Maybe Geneticist and Mechanics works a bit different, but its common sense. I trust in iROwiki, but in some situations like this, I must test by myself.

Yeah, actually, I don't think that is correct, I did a bunch of WP forum research and came up with that it goes by job level period. I've edited that wiki page to reflect this.
It's really one of those mysteries we'll never know unless kRO/iRO tells us, but what we got so far says job 70 > job 50 for upgrade weapon.

MC control limit? What?

You can put a ticket in for a 1/1 reset and they'll put it back at a 1/1 high novice.

Tested on more than 10000 weapons already and it is in line with the results.
Been asking the phenomenon since years ago. Of course WP cant answer.

This sounds interesting, an event based off this wouldn't hurt lol
You cant revert to Mastersmith, but you can request for the GM team a 1/1 High Novice reset. Did it on multiple characters so far

That’s me editing irowiki saying that mech keeps the rate of MS job level.
Tested on more than 10000 weapons already and it is in line with the results.
Been asking the phenomenon since years ago. Of course WP cant answer.
Unfortunately that isn't enough for the sake of the wiki, for every person I saw that said what you said, two people said it's the other way around. So I edited the wiki to make it a little more vague.

feel free.
i just share the experience of rigorous testing since 2014, breaking over 10000 weaps. still too little sample size? judge by yourself. i am very lucky 10000 times? judge by yourself.
i used to keep this 'secret' by myself. i found it was better to spread the info around.
so, now the 'secret' will be secret again. i dont mind.

If the game knows how many skill points you need to spend for each skill tree, it has a way to store your previous job lvl, thats why you get the warning message, to spend previous skill points when you reset, Upgrade Weapon only cares about whitesmith job levels, that meaning from 51 to 70 while brewing accounts for your current job lvl regardless.

wouldn't trust in RO technology so much no :v it has been proven again and again that logic and simplicity doesnt work here :v

The problem is, I don't think the game is that smart. While it knows what job you changed at (1st, 2nd, then to third) ... as Ashuckel said...

Coding this sort of thing I think is definitely beyond our korean overlords.
so, now the 'secret' will be secret again. i dont mind.
I mean, the wiki page still says it is possible, but it also says it isn't possible. Since we really don't know for sure.

I've also been using my Mechanic to upgrade weapons.
Though I don't have the hard numbers, it definitely feels like I'm getting better success rates vs the NPC.
