What on earth went wrong, exactly? Standard hard-drive failure that came up out of the blue...?

Uhhhh.... degrading performance on a most likely old drive that was used on one of the old servers...prob was time for a change, better on friday during the day.

I just find it odd that it was planned for the dead middle of the day as opposed to last night when it was announced. I guess they had to purchase better parts or something and that takes time? Or do important people bail out by 5PM PST?

More staff in during the day, not peak play time for users and better to have things run long earlier in the day and not have people working overtime.

The issue is concerning our database drives needing to have their data moved over to a safe place. Copying those files over is the most time consuming part of the process.

Mid-day is the correct time to do maint - everyone's around, all the stores are open, and all the players are at class or at work.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and suggest that they became aware of the issue during teus maint, and it spooked them enough that they decided to fix it before next teus. So you order the drives on teusday late at night, and choose overnight shipping, the drives arrive thursday, and get installed friday after configuring any new RAID arrays and performing other preparation.

Whenever they did late maint, would be broken and not get fixed forever because the staff was lacking / went to home to sleep... I much prefer these mid-day fixes.

compensate us, give us VIP ppls our 100% exp/jexp, -87% death penalty, 100% Drop rate, AND x2 drop/exp/jexp for whole server, we're tired of you going down and wasting ppl's time and money. You should have swapped all your stuff last maint when you NOTICED that it was starting to go out. Never wait until it's too late for something as important as hardware. Software can be fixed while we're on, but your hardware should have been changed when no one was on.

I have a question, when do business hours start and end for you guys? I usually get important tickets replied to in the early morning hours, usually before 9AM PST, but I've also had important stuff handled as late as 10PM PST.

Yeah, it sucks that I happened to have the day off today and then this happens, but I'd rather have them do this during off-peak than, say, 6pm EST at night or during a weekend.

Considering the staff is located in US on PST time. Doesn't matter.

They should be doing maint at this time because all the staff they need should still be around for a few more hours if there are any hiccups after it gets brought back up. Not to mention, when people are tired they don't always make the brightest decisions.

Yea....seriously. When it comes to a hardware replacement....do you really care that you can't play a few hours to ensure in the future you can?


Or maybe one day we can just crash, be down for way longer and potentially loose tons of data....and to top it off, fixing Port Malaya Hospital.
