Why can't you name some other game? I play *** way more than I play RO.

Doesn't mean I hate RO. lol

He brought up a very valid business model. I guess Blizzard is the devil.

another reason i wouldn't switch over to classic, is i like the idea of new content........classic has no new content and won't ever get anything new........tbh, the classic server has lasted way longer than i thought it would, but has gone the exact route my brother said it would here on these forums right before the mods perma-banned him for saying that

i quit playing shortly before renewal came out, due to the fact that i was working 60+ hours a week, and my spear knight(at that time) was and had been in the 80's for months due to the ridiculous amount of exp that was needed.........so no, i have no desire to play on classic for months(and by months i mean years) just to barely get a character to first job change........sorry, thought classic was a bad idea when people first started asking for it

Classic is easier to level on than old RO, it should really be called Classic-mechanics-RO or something

People seem to have a lot of misconceptions about Classic. Server xfers would be awesome because all these people with the wrong idea about it should give it a try. ;)

Maybe explaining it first to those who have misconceptions about Classic would help clear it up? Ya know, instead of being so vague about it.

From what I've seen so far, the community in Classic is a bit more focused on PvP/WoE. Which I guess is fine and dandy since I prefer Classic mechanics with that sort of stuff, but I'm not really willing to jump into that part of the game... with all the issues/drama/etc floating around.

it will be still be a stagnant community though, as there will never be anything new to do..........which is why the community has dropped so far

Xellie has been clearing up all the ones in this thread. Not trying to be vague, sorry. :P

Renewal has the same issues/drama/etc just one server has more population than the other to absorb some of it. I like both servers equally either way and just think this would be a giant boost for Classic.

while i agree that the renewal server has all the same issues as the classic server, the two main reasons i stay with renewal is  first and foremost new content.........and secondly, because i don't have the time i would need to play classic, as it takes much longer to get anywhere on classic, than it does on renewal

but the first and foremost reason classic will never grow is the lack of new content.......sorry to be such a buzz kill

During the early stages of the post, Zero asked what the state of PvM is. All she got was a simple "pvm is whatever you make it :>" reply. I think that's pretty much the definition of vague. Not exactly helpful for players who're curious about the server's state.

What's the PvM community's focus in Classic? How do people level in Classic now? You know, tell us anything that'll help us make an informed decision?

That is true. Although, if say all the issues we're gone from both servers... I'd definitely jump into Classic for the PvP aspect of RO.

While it's true that at some point in Classic we'll reach the end of the content created by kRO. But the iRO team seems pretty dedicated to keep creating things for us to do. We've had most of the big holiday events that Renewal has lately. We've also had a custom St Patricks day event (I think?), two challenge mode dungeons (Byalan and now Chiv/Prontera undead thing). There are some limitations the GMs are under due to behind the scenes problems, however they've expressed interest in giving us new content regularly and are working on things.

There's a lot of misconceptions people have about Classic, right now the only thing that actually fits that description is the mechanics. There has been a lot of changes to the maps and dungeons. We've had a lot of quality of life changes to make it more attractive and much faster to achieve things. Drop/exp rates are insane compared to how they used to be and we're currently looking at fine tuning the experience for newer players through map changes, exp changes, group activities etc.

PvM right now is in a weird place, most of the established players are just leeching themselves in Thors. Over the last few months we've had Dragons/Ice Dungeon turnin quests and there has been a fairly active group of people doing those. Biolabs is not really worth the effort right now as the GMs still havent given us proper spawns (we've been trying for like 18 months). But like the fine tuning with the new player experience we've been looking at ways to get people more involved and out there.

Beyond that what sorts of things do you like to do for PvM in Renewal?

She is right though. PvM is what you make it. I don't like PvM on Renewal or Classic so I can't really say much on that.

Everything is about personal preference.

Some people don't like the server, others love it & all for different reasons. Not sure what answer you're seeking.

Refer to the above.

If you wanted specifics you could have asked instead of being 'vague,' I was responding to general remarks made in the thread and nothing more. 'Refer to above' where I pointed that out. :)

With the way the server was implemented I am very hesitant to give it a shot.  Especially with all the complaints about cheating and duping.  I have tried to go back many times only to find almost no one to even talk to.  Only one time have I found someone who responds to me when I try to talk to them.  Most of my friends who came back for classic (we are talking about 20 players) quit soon after due to the reset stone requirements and rental gears, as well as the fixed spawns that got people to 99 after only a few days.  It becomes very discouraging to try again after all of that.

Well... I wasn't exactly looking for anything specific about Classic's PvM, just any useful information about it. Hence why I said, anything to help us make a decision.

My apologies if I didn't manage to get that across though.

Bio3 is fine as it is actually.

<justice speech>

Regarding the cheating/duping cries. Keep in mind that classic is a much smaller server and the remaining community care about reviving/saving the server/remaining community. Not only do the cheaters stand out much more because the community is small (secrets are hard to have on classic); but those who do fight are passionate about making the changes needed.

The server is very different from when it was first put in and I would really recommend giving it a try for what it is now, not what you remember. Yes the population may be small, but this whole idea is to fix that.

I dont think anyone can disagree that the server launch was a bit of a fiasco/disappointment. However we've broken free of the curse of the Heimdallr and most of the things you mentioned (magic stones, rental gears and old spawns) have been changed.

You're right that its hard to find people to talk to, something we've suggested is a place for players to gather together to form groups/meet new people as most people hang out in their guild spot and it makes it very hard for people to approach them or for them to get involved in anything.

For guilds or groups of people interested in PvP/WoE there have been quite a few nice changes too. Supplying a guild on Classic is very easy, there's Guild Surplus Boxes that drop in guild dungeons (and the current challenge dungeon at a low rate) which contain almost everything you need to supply your guild for siege. You can get away with farming for 2-4 hours a week (total, just one player) and easily supply 15-25 players depending on your needs. We still have our full array of forts right now so if you've got 5-6 friends and want to go around looking for some fights you can. Theres quite a few smaller guilds around right now in 1.0 (10-15 players each) as well as one or two larger guilds and an alliance. Generally the larger guilds try stay out of the way of the smaller guilds to keep things from getting silly, but occasionally there's some clashes.

Battlegrounds have also had some changes, they're active regularly and there's players with megaphones helping to get them started. All the rewards only cost one type of badge and the number of badges for wins has been increased. As yet there's no KVM and if it does ever get implemented there will be no KVM badges from the Kafra shop or any other weird place, as well as fixing any existing bugs related to farming KVM.

First month classic was out, I created a dancer and leveled and such, started earning zeny to be competitive so I could join a guild and go from there. I even knew some major guilds that would have me. But a bevvy of issues which you mentioned outright crushed the appeal, and as a bunch of my acquitences from renewal quit their classic start ups, so did I. The rental garbage was annoying, as was a number of other things. It wasn't nostalgic with the way the kafra shop was milking people from the start. When I think about the thousands of dollars I poured into my account that is currently on renewal chaos, the idea of starting over and letting those expensively +12ed items on renewal collect dust while I started from scratch on a server with less content in the pipeline other than stuff we've already had, it was an insurmountable weight.

I don't think any reformation can despoil that. And balanced server transfers definitely can't.

Why can't you name some other game?

Competitor Content
We are very aware that there are many games for you to choose from. We are grateful you have decided to play our games and we know the stats, and that many of you play multiple games. While we work on bringing a variety of games to you to play here with us, we know that some of you play or may run across games that are published outside of the world that is Gravity / WarpPortal. So we ask that you keep the discussions on our forums about the games we publish, anything other than discussions about Gravity / WarpPortal published games will be removed. The exception to this being the off topic section. If you want to talk about non-MMO games there, this is allowed.

Basically from a business standpoint, it's to discourage free advertising for another game and to minimize potential loss of profit. I don't think this is an issue that would be negotiable because of higher up authorities even if the reference is understandable. It's one of those things that regardless of if it's stupid or not we are all forced to comply with it.

You could still analyze data, just rename major competitiors.

Good: Other game titles made significantly more money than Ragnarok because they did XYZ.
Bad: [insert game name] made significantly more money than Ragnarok because XYZ.
