Uhm question, can Merchant branch classes, from smiths to mechanics and alchemist to geneticist, use mounts while they have Halter Lead on?

It's just that I don't see that around and I am just curious. :Emo_17:

The plausible reason is that sadly they don't have mounts. :sob:

Halter Lead are the mounts.  They are temporary 7 to 30 day rental mounts.

I would've bought one years ago if it was permanent. Even if it was like $15-$20, but as I've gradually lost interest in RO over the years (due to kRO's lack of care, not because I dislike the game), I have been tapering my play time down.

I can't honestly say that I would buy one anymore, for me at least, that ship has already sailed.

I think what he mean is while they have their carts on. I believe I saw a Mechanic on mount and the cart is still on the mount's back.

How about with Mado Gear on?  :heh:

Yeah I meant to say carts not mounts: "

I apologise for the mistake.. ;___; :ani_swt3: I've been forgetful on proof-reading my comments lately.

I guess the boar would be flattened! XD Hmm, I think it would be interesting to see a mado-mech riding a boar while wearing his mecha-suit!

Yeah they can, I've seen several of them running around. Looks rather amusing since the cart looks like it's wedged into the boar's butt.

Ahh!

Lmao....*horrible image of cart + butt = X_X

Reason I've asked that question was the last time I used halter lead was two years ago, and I have clashing memories on what it does on the Mech and Genetic classes.

Haha, thanks! XD

I am sure you do, you just don't find it convenient.

I'd be really concerned if you actually didn't understand.

Actually I don't understand.

Let's look at it:

1: The system we have - no one buys the item at all since there are better things that you can use to temp boost your movement speed / looks.  Gravity doesn't make money off of them.

2: Permanent mounts - people would actually buy the item since it has a decent ROI. Gravity makes money from people buying at least one for each account they have.... Gravity actually makes money from the item, and has a continual, if slow after the first rush, stream of income from new accounts wanting said item.

Insisting on option #1 because they would lose money if they went to option #2 is stupid since option #1 is not making them money.

All the folks in south Pront riding around on mounts says otherwise.

solution: make mounts character bound and permanent like weight lifter boxes.  Put them at 1k KP each.  Everyone would probably buy one for their 'mains'.  This would make it so each person would potentially buy up to 9 mounts per account, which would be way more than what the average person would possibly spend on rental mounts.

This would make it so players don't feel like they're going to get ripped off, and it would be another aspect of character customization/advancement.

Anyway, it'll be much cooler if the Savage mount will have a robotic armor as well when you m0unt it with Mado gear on. But that's not gonna happen. lol xD

Too much spam so no. :heh:

Permanent mounts are much useless than rentals. There will come a time that even you wouldn't be using them. So let's just stick to rentals.

if ostrich mount can make my ranger spam traps, i will consider it. the real probelm to me is the price. too expensive for temporary item.
btw, anyone here ever rent some weapons from malangdo? yes, it is not worth it. better invest on permanent goods.

50KP every month > 1k one-time fee.

I've seen people in South Pront running around with these mounts as well. Especially baby novices/super novices (for the "cute" factor, I'm sure). Making permanent halters would be a mistake and would result in lost profits for iRO over time. Don't be so stingy. Support your server! :P

If mounts gave stats/abilities(like say Atlantica Online), then Gravity could make money by coming out with a different perm mount every so often, but unless they make mounts into real pieces of equipment so to say, I don't see Gravity making such perm.

This reminded me of another game which had a "horse training" system. Originally, people could make money by leveling up their horse training skill, then training horses for others. The horses that could be acquired in game had a life span of a few months after hatching. This was a decent money-maker. That company's cash shop started introducing permanent mounts with better stat bonuses which didn't need to be trained. Guess what happened to the horse training system/trainers. ;) After a while, I'm sure the cash shop even started suffering due to the horses not being able to be traded.

50KP every month > 1k one-time fee.

Its 150kp for a month.  Besides, anyone who thinks logically would buy things instead of rent an item.  So what your saying is its better to keep paying for a item than to pay a one time fee and the item is yours forever.  Now, does that makes sense?  There are people who rent them, but of the whole server population, how many percentage is actually using them?  I would say not many...

Whenever I log in to do pvp I end up having to find a vendor to buy one from. Since I usually only play 1-2 days out of every few months it's pretty annoying I would rather just dump 500m and never have to worry about it.

I stand corrected. I was looking at the 7 day halter price.

If WP came out with the permanent halter leads two years ago, a bunch of people would have bought them, then the cash shop would have dried up on any kind of those sales (permanent and temp halter leads) within a couple months. Yeah, they would have made their money off them in a short period of time, but at 1k per lead, they'd take a loss off of the people who are currently buying them monthly. (1k for permanent vs. 1800 per year for a temporary one.)

That 1800 KP is almost the price of 2 permanent mounts at 1k each. The few people that are buying the temp halters would opt for the potentially cheaper lead. And today, there'd be no more income for any leads except for random people joining iRO.

Besides, like I said earlier, the halter leads are more for the "cute" factor. Others have listed other gear that you can use to increase movement, such as the peco headband. There's also the Bloody Axe, a decent lvl 4 weapon. People change head gear and weapons like they change their underwear anyway. (Some probably change gears more than their underwear. :P)

So yeah, the permanent halter leads would be a better investment for us, but in the long run, they would eventually hurt WP more...

It's already failing for WP since the majority of people who play this game rather buy than rent a item.  Therefore, the rental item is already a fail on their part.  Lets look at it on a different perspective.  What if Apple starts renting phones from the beginning rather than let people buy their phones?  I doubt that Apple would have made as much money in the beginning.  The money they made from quick sales can be used to invest into other newer items that can make them more money, on the long run.  It's a business strategy to get people to buy a product then use that money to invest into development of future products.  If businesses try to sell a item for as much as they can no matter how long it takes to reach that goal, they would already cripple their business from the start.

I disagree, the lifespan of the average player vs total potential kafra points spent would not make up for the 'loss' in rental fees.  Players over the course of their gameplay would likely have alts, therefore making it character bound would be the smarter choice as you'd count that the average player would quit eventually while new players eventually replace them.

All a player would need to do is purchase 2 leads over the course of a year to make the difference.  The market for halter leads would also be increased because you're opening up the target audience towards people that want to invest in their characters.

schia, That's IF the players would buy them. It would ultimately depend on how much WP would charge for the leads, how much people would be willing to spend on something that's only effect can be obtained in the game for free (without even having to unequip/dismount in order to attack and use skills.) I highly doubt that many people (probably less than the current number of people renting) would buy more than 1 if they were character bound, depending on the cost. They could use that money towards something better, like boxes to get BMx3s, gums and head gears.

Actually, Apple is renting phones in a round-about way. They sell you a phone, then when a brand new one comes out, you can turn that phone in and get a new one (with a slight fee since yours is now considered "used", iirc. Not sure how it works.) They can do this because new phones are constantly being developed.

Just like their computers. Their "standard" model computers are more expensive than an upgraded Window's based computer. This is because most viruses and other malicious stuff you can "catch" on the internet are made for Windows based computers. They'd have no effect on a Mac. They have the client base that is able and willing to pay the extra amount for the added security to be able to turn a damn good profit, where as Windows based computers are more popular to hackers and such people because they're more preferred by the masses due to being inexpensive.

Now look at the new costume head gear. When the new system was put in, the head gears were all made as permanent. But your effectively buying one, then renting the rest, due to turning them in for stones for a "chance" at your preferred enchant stone. Even after getting this stone, you still have a chance to fail to enchant. If this happens, you effectively just rented a nearly useless item for a short period of time. No one's complaining about it, though. With halter leads, there are no possible upgrades with the exception of anything coming down the pipes from kRO, as I understand it, which from what's been reported on the forums, nothing is coming/expected. So if WP comes out with permanent halters, that'd be the end for the leads' sales... again, depending on how much they actually charge...

Off (current) topic: I like how character movement speed boost and mount movement speed stack so that movement speed is similar to a Geneticist. I found it useful for homunculus training for a pre-Geneticist to get max movement speed for the homunculus (just need to re-log or change maps, since it's not possible to use skills while on the mount).
