Mebbe I should give SAI a shot, too. I see a lot of nice looking artworks made with it. I am more convenient working with CSP and gets disoriented with PS each time I hafta use it. Need to get a hold of my PS skills again. :sob:

^I still use trad. I actually prefer trad than digital 8D there's no ctrl + z which makes it more challenging. XD wow 0.7mm faber castell owo you like it thick?

I use 2b pencils or that 0.5 faber castell mechanical pencil and a test dustless eraser because i hate eraser mess D: XD

Question tho on what surface do you like drawing on with pencil? Smooth or rough?

Honestly I prefer traditional methods when it comes to drawing/painting.  Computer programs are definitely not a necessity for the process of producing wonderful and meaningful works of art.  :)

Digital art doesn't have to be made with expensive programs.  If you wanted to try free digital art programs, there are things like GIMP and free versions of full programs provided by art program developers, like SAI.  There are also plenty of free online drawing apps like pixlr, which uses a similar layout to Photoshop.  I used to draw digitally with a mouse back in middle school because I didn't have a tablet, so tablets are not necessary either.

If someone ever creates an efficient ctrl + z for non-digital art I'll be set for life.

I kind of alternate between regular and putty erasers, especially if shading is involved.  Putty erasers can get really messy if you aren't careful with them, though.

Didn't realize the $50 scanner I use to digitize my pencil drawings is considered expensive tech.

Doesn't change the fact that my preferred way of doing art is traditional, not digital.

I do that too in the absence of a scanner (when "converting" a trad to digi) hence the image gets skewed somewhat if the angle is not perfect and it sucks. LOL

Yeah it takes practice, but I have a sort of system for it now.

I actually prefer drawing with real pencils myself, but the sad fact of the matter is that a lot of days I can't grip a pencil very well anymore (medical) so I had to swap to digital which I'm learning... slowly. I used to do a lot of coloured pencil and soft shading, charcoal and pastel. Watercolour pencils are also <3

I'm stuck using Crayola color pencils because my relatives gave me a LOT of it and I don't want to trash it all to get decent color pencils.

I envy how you guys feel comfortable doing trads, I cant remember the last time I created a trad art piece except for the casual rough pencil sketches I do when I have no access to digi. Prolly the reason I suck at coloring.  :p_swt:

Xellie, what kind of system do you have?  I tried taking a photo of a drawing with my phone the other day, but I had the angle issue (plus my room lighting is weird) so I gave up and used the scanner.

And ROCKheir, the grass is always greener; I envy your digital art skills. :V  I'm having to relearn digital art right now.

By the way, I made an art tumblr so I updated my profile.  Not much there at all yet, though.  It's been years since I've posted/made art I thought would be worth showing. :D

Thanks, blue. I've been trying to improve but each time I think I've become better, I haven't. Really having a hard time establishing a consistent system in going about my pieces and  I get sad whenever I see discontinued WIP art files in my desktop. And they're starting to become a lot. :p_sad:   Anyways, relearning digi art only requires you to just keep doing it till you get the hang of pentablets and stuff again. I think a couple of art pieces to work on is enough for an artist to relearn it. ^^ The fact that we can ctrl+z anytime is what makes me favor digi more than trad, add to the fact that I dun have any traditional coloring materials (and a decent working knowledge about using them) and an arsenal of art pencils and inks.

Maybe you're in need of a change of subject or medium?  Sometimes when I feel "stuck" in my art works, I need to try drawing things I wouldn't normally, or practice areas I have trouble with.

Also, I find that if I work on one artistic skill, it tends to enhance all my other ones by some degree.  If you're having trouble in drawing, maybe try photography for awhile, for example.  I can't explain why it helps.

I have many old WIPs in my folders, too, which I'm hoping to avoid this time.

And thanks; I'm already starting to feel comfortable with digi again.  I'm trying to not be over-ambitious and burn out on it, but it's difficult when I know I won't have much time to do it anymore very soon.

As I said before, if I had ctrl+z for trad I probably would never look back lol.  Though I suppose in the long run, digi art is cheaper in a way.

Hm. I never really dabbled in Photography except the regular "please take us a picture" thingy but I think what you're saying makes sense. It's not unlikely that you get to better understand lighting, color scheme, composition, and other aspects of art by taking photographs, looking at each them in admiration, and consequently studying them by mere observation. Aight. This is a sound advice that I must consider. Thanks, again! ^^

That's good to hear, congrats! Yea, it sucks when life robs you of the time you need for your passion. Hope you still make do with your limited time resource somehow tho.
I myself would abandon digi art altogether if ctrl+z for trads is ever a thing. kkkkkkkk I'm inclined to say so myself. Not to mention it's less messy (work area and doing the piece itself).

I also think you might need abit of inspiration. Might i suggest you begin by looking more at the curvature and gravitational influences of boobies? There are many sizes and shapes so there is always something new to draw about them, especially Bakunyuu style boobies!!!

Ahem.....of course this is all in the name of research into bettering ourselves at drawing, and i believe it all starts with boobies.

Inspiration. I've been looking at Wanderer boobies for that matter but even those elude me. But upon your advice, I'll stop at nothing in grabbing those... I mean in grabbing hold of the skill in rendering perfect curves and bounces.
What's Bakunyuu style anyway?

Those wanderer boobies are not the breasts you are looking for, search harder young padawan. The path to cultivating the perfect sweater puppies is long but I believe you will sour through leaps and bounds harhar.

It pains my heart you have never heard of Bakunyuu style before, you have much to learn my dear. I will leave you to go searching through the internet to find out, I'm afraid if I explain any more Kokeshicatmight get me extremely banned for 10 days, but that would be fine, I totally deserve it.
