As most everyone on the forum already knows, we have been under persistent DDoS attacks. The attacks were largely mitigated until they ramped up in frequency, volume and method on Thursday night.

Of course we have been doing all possible to keep the games accessible as much as possible, but there have been a number of times that the DDOS did overwhelm our mitigations and connection was lost. We have been upgrading our mitigations constantly based on each new attack, while reviewing what key services are impacted just by our mitigations.
Without going into detail, suffice it to say that to remain open enough so that players can play but attackers are thwarted is either a fine line or an impossible one depending upon circumstances. Currently we still have attacks intermittently coming in, and we are still updating our processes as best as possible.

We have been in triage mode to keep as much service available as possible, but that does mean that some services or players' connection troubles are not resolved. One of those connection troubles was some people unable to connect to web services or patchers properly despite them being open.

It seems that during one of the more aggressive attacks and mitigation setups it is possible that some DNS servers on the internet may have not been able to refresh our DNS entries properly, so those using those DNS servers can't find us correctly.
Fortunately such DNS issues self fix themselves on the internet over time; but for a more immediate fix please try the following.

1. Disconnect from your proxy or vpn service (your IP is nearly 100% certain to NOT be actually blocked)
2. Try the site again, if the page won't display, try updating your DNS to use Google's open DNS.
- Please do write down your old DNS settings in case your ISP won't connect with them.
- URL for instructions: https://developers.g...-dns/docs/using
3. Visit the page again, you may need to hard refresh your browser to clear its cache.

We are still working on improving our method of mitigation to allow for more normal game play, please do continue to let us know when something specific is wrong with your game so we can look into it.

thx for help, after 2 days of unable to connect to server its allow me in. yay

 

 

but, when i try to add kafra points with my steam-wallet, its always give me a error

Same. Just to elaborate when I open the game through Steam, it doesn't let me go in instead it gives me a "Disconnected from Server" message immediately. Then I press "escape" to remove that box then it will show the login ( user pw ) screen. Everything is smooth til I try to buy VIP or KP using my steam wallet and that's when this "Error False entry. Please try again" comes into play

Since the majority of us cannot play on the RO RE:START, will there be an extension on time for the costume headgear event? I would really like to be able to fulfill the requirements in order to obtain a Costume:King Poring Hat before it's too late.

1: the connection still sucks i keep getting disconnected while trying to vend. whatever u are trying to do isnt working. :(

2: maybe try shutting down the servers altogether, finding the threat and neutralizing it. im sure u can afford an adequate firewall or whatever that can accomplish this so sinvest in one. what are we paying u for? 

3: i hope u are planning to compensate us fo the days of vip  we have paid for but are unable to enjoy due to ur slow and ineffective  attempts at stopping these attacks. if nor i wont be paying anymore.

u guys are taking so long its just giving these jerks time to  to launch more attacks :( for awhile the dc were fixed but now starting again. get it together  already! this is very unprofessional and bad customer service. i hope u manage to fix this problem fast before u start losing customers.

u are correct i dont but then im not inclind to do that kind of thing so i dont want to be either however i think theyre making it seem harder than it has to be. other games deal with same issues much faster and better so why cant warpportal. i enjoy ro very much so i want to play. when i pay for something i want it to work efficiently and problems to be solved in a timely manner. i dont think that is asking too much :(

What they want is for you to give up. They create a situation that is untenable for customers, they decide to go elsewhere, company gives up. My suggestion is don't make it that easy for them. :p_omg:

The thing is they already had a DDOS shield up prior to this attack, but the attacker simply broke through the shield by overwhelming it. Just like real-life terrorism, it takes time to put up defenses because DDOS attacks cannot be predicted so any protection put into place can eventually be broken through. Money, unfortunately, does not solve everything and the digital age simply makes these kinds of attacks more accessible to people.

The developer has to be more interested in thwarting the attack than the attacker is in breaking down those defenses. I've seen a couple of sites where the website lost out through pure indifference.

 

People will put their resources where they are the most productive, and right now the ddos are producing a lot of pain and frustration. WP needs to make it so the end result does not happen. If we are happy with what WP are doing, what would be the point of ddos.

Since you can't break the technology with more technology, figure out why someone would waste their time. Target that motivation rather than make it a robot on robot battle.

Petty people tend to just DDOS WarpPortal for a few days and then let it go. This prolonged attack means that the DDOSer wants to see WarpPortal burn to the ground. It's hard to negotiate with malicious intent like that if that's the case.
