1) They're mostly for story, with gameplay that looks marginally more fun than clicking on monsters for 999+ hours
2) I have to sit here and click on monsters for 999+ hours

ProtonJon's Let's Play Super Mario FTW!!!I've been watching Lets Play videos on youtube next to the RO window, of games I'll likely never play because

Its 2x EXP and i should be on levelling here but i just don't have the interest anymore its just too boring. I've tried my old favorite, music. I play solitaire, chess, battleships but nothing helps. I've even palmed my game off to my 10 year old son who has wanted to play for at least 4 years. But, less than an hour later he gives it back to me saying he doesn't want to play no more its too boring!!!
I wonder if i could train my dog to play for me????
closest i got to that was getting my cat to try and catch my sinx onscreen. he got bored of it about as fast as i get bored with leveling.

Find a group of friends and chat about things you hate/like... Your neighbours playing loud music all morning... Or your precious car that just barely getting through it's yearly check-up T_T.The only reason I join party's or guilds are for getting rid of the endless boredom that is the grinding at high lvls... Chat a line, kill a monster... Chat another line, kill another monster, Repeat endlessly. That, or just having 25 different characters to keep things fresh.
Not gonna lie, this is the only thing that keeps me going. People have asked me what my main is...and I never really have an answer other than "i've been playing this char for the past few days" Music helps but it's the switching between chars that really does the trick. Its not much but so far I have 7 out of 18 chars 3rd class =\

It's a 2x event and all, so I decided to finally try bringing a Renewal character up from level 1.
I picked a monk since I know it's 1 of the 4 playable classes. I've given up on casters until we at least get 13.3 sometime in 2012.
There are no leveling map options. Say I'm level 70. I could go to Sphinx 5, and have to deal with matyrs that are only slighter weaker than the pasanas, but give 1/3 of the exp, and anubii which are 10x as strong and give... 1/3 of the exp. I could fight harpies and take massive damage for... pasana exp. Or I could fight grand pecos, which can't really hurt me for... pasana exp. Gee, I wonder what map I'm going to use.
So, there's no way to use skill to level faster... or at all. There's no way to fight anything fun. There's just the chore of more of the same - pick the weakest monster 5-9 levels over you that you can find in quantity, mindlessly slaughter it, repeat for months until 150/50. I can stand it now because it's fast, but I don't think I can make it much beyond 90. For the people who made it to 130,140,150 legitimately - how did you defeat the game's only real enemy - soul-crushing boredom?
I change it up.
I listen to Music while playing. Then sometimes i play the BGMs.
I also chat while leveling when i'm not going too hard, or when there is an interesting conversation. I spend money on HE BMs and do a few easy MvPs routinely to get some excitement of possibly getting a rare item or card.
I help a new player to go back to my helpless days and relive the novelties of the game and the life as a beginner. I solo some easy place while i search for a party and when i get the party i shift to another map. But always i level 1 character mainly. About 95% of play time is on that character.

Well you chose Monk, and Monk is going to be boring to level until you get Sura. Classes that kill everything 1 by 1 are generally going to be boring to level. If you play a class that mobs, it can be slightly less boring, and atleast require you to be alert and attentive most of the time.
I totally agree with this guy. Try leveling a Crit Assassin. borrrrrrrrrringgggggg. But then i started using grimtooth on some weak ass monsters with some big ass weapons and id was fun how i skillfully avoid being hit and hten hiding and killing them all in like 2 seconds. I play Royal Guard now and I totally enjoy leveling on that more than GX.

Its such a shame though, the game still has masses of potential. I just keep hanging round hoping they relight that elusive flame and bring back the challenge we all need and crave for.closest i got to that was getting my cat to try and catch my sinx onscreen. he got bored of it about as fast as i get bored with leveling.
I play jROa lot too, one because i spend a lot of time in Japan and because it does give you that prerenewal challenge but on a renewal platform which is fantastic. The only real downside to jRO is the HUGE base EXP requirements to level which for a part time player like me really is too much.
