So how many of you would dedicate an hour per play session to be a part of a "helping newbies" thing, where you could get some in-game swag from us for being so helpful? And I mean actually playing with them and showing them what is going on, so they can get into the game and upto lvl 70 of so within a week?

Is an idea that needs refining yet but I think it is a good start to an idea.

It's already something some of us already do. I know I do it on a daily(or near daily) running one of the largest active non-woe guilds on the Valkyrie server. Some of the best times I've had playing this game was as a noobie grinding away at low level dungeons with friends and it's something I try to foster and promote with the newer players that join my guild. I don't however think that giving a new player lots of gears really helps them much, making them work towards it kinda like a DIY Eden Quest or helping them make money to buy better gears (without exploiting them as cheap labour) is a much better idea. eg. Currently I've worked out an initiative between the guild I WoE with (Valkyrie) and the members in my the guild I run (Valkyrie Players Guild aka VPG), so that the (mostly new) players in VPG can provide the supplies use every week in Valkyrie at a fair market price. It's something some of the other guilds or individuals could do as well, I mean if someone out there is trying to make an orc hero helm, why not strike a deal with a new player who's already leveling at orc village to also sell you orcish vouchers for a fair price? Need speed pots, herbs or a obscene amount of jellopy? How about putting a new player to work? Giving them a few supplies (ie. pots) and a general direction of where to go is all anyone needs to do.

As a community builder and life coach/mentor outside of the game, I do believe the idyllic innocence that someone has when starting something new (like playing this game) is an integral part of what makes it exciting early on and not something that should be tainted by providing too much information. Part of the fun comes from the learning process which generally comes via trial and error and asking proper questions to people with more experience. Setting up some sort of mentorship program in this game would be a fantastic idea but I don't think any swag would really be necessary. I do believe there are enough good hearted people here that will do it on their free time without any rewards. If there should ever be any rewards, it should go unmentioned as you don't go about developing good will that way.

(Although Heim, you can help me help new players out by extending my guild cap from 56 members to 80+ members <_< )

PS. I love the video that was posted above as it really SHOULD be the way people should be helping others, but sadly selfishness usually kicks in before anything happens especially when it relates to 'exp'.

That is an amazing idea. When I started up another game it had a system in place like this.
There were a few who do it just for items/points/monies though and weren't very helpful at all though. (So, not too great of rewards if any, so only those who want to do it will, or multiple account people won't take advantage)
If you can't put it in game, could refer to these (warp portal) forums in-game and have a section for this even. (AKA mention it in training grounds)

There shouldnt be "swags" or any reward really for helping someone out. The fact that you are making a possible friend should be rewarding enough...

Why are you people surprised the GMs want to artificially create an unnatural amount of wealth on game servers? Its been their M.O. for years.

Well, after reading the entire post, and specially heims reply, i cant stand away from posting :-P. Please Heim dont give any rewards for helping, just getting new playmates, more players to love our beloved game should be more than an awesome reward, also, all i ever ask when i help someone out, is that if its posible they do the same in the future, and to be nice, i strongly belive that you get back what you give, so being nice ends up whit people being nice to you, ok thats utopic, at least nowadays, but if we dont keep trying, it wont change, so all of you nice gents, keep being nice and maybe we can change the world, not only ro world, who is already favored to be nice coz of its cute nature, we can change the entire world, it belongs to those who work for it and try to make it better, so keep going.
Well i got a bit out of topic, sorry it just touched some of my basic life style and filosophy so i couldnt stay clean on topic.
If you want to help out the nice in game helpers who are around, first identify them, i can swear MrBudd is nice and always wanting to help if asked correctly, so if you really want to reward, then give the people holding helping guilds, maybe an acces to an npc in training grounds dedicated to them, or posibility to expand theyr max guild members after certifying some achivment, like for example getting 5-10 newcomers send in a ticket telling how that guild helped them out. well that will give you extra work, coz you need to check that those guilds whit extra slots never go to woe. for the moment i dont think that MrBudd would abuse it, but maybe others would try to.

My experience whit helping-being helped, started in iro beta, when i asked a kind lady how i could get to prontera main city, to go from there to payon or morroc to get the morroc solution-payon solution for my mage job change, she told me she was busy, but then she sayd ok follow me i go in that direction anyways, we started chating on the way, and at the end she toock some extra time to introduce me to her guild mates, and then left while guild mates equiped me kindly whit npc gear, it was awesome, but nothing spectacular, but the fact they toock time and efort to help me, was what i liked most, and also its what got me in love whit ro. At the end, now i ended up doing almost the same, if someone seems lost, or asks me for help, i mostly stop what im doing and spend some time whit them answering questions telling some tips, and ofcourse making sure they know they can pm me whenever they have any questions. I love to do this, cos at the end, we the comunity is what makes a game awesome or just great, so if my little help, can make the nice player base grow up a bit, im happy for the rest of the day. I got telled too often im to kind-or nice, ended up scamed a lot of times, so now i dont give any equips-zeny anymore, that i found out, doesnt help getting a better comunity, off course exeptions are made, but still i prefer to log in on my priest and warp people somewhere than to give them the zeny for the teleport. also i would hate the title reward, or ranking reward for helpers, that just sound for me as the top scamable player list. I, or We, dont need to be publicly recogniced or rewarded, if you want to do this, make a 1 day event every year, in honour of the many nice helpers in ro.(not telling who they are, just give the event for all like a sponsored by the many helpers).

Once again, i nd up apologizing for my bad English, and also for this huge wall of text.
Feel ro, live ro, love ro, be nice... be part of it ;-)
