  • By Saturday we will be testing a newer solution for the character server, it is not a final build (meaning it will never fail) but it should avoid constant DCs every 30 minutes while being responsive within seconds when the server goes brain dead.
  • Orc Archer Bows are now account bound, we will make a box for them soon so that orc archers can drop the box.
  • Improve the pirate day quest
  • If you have the bandana you can get the Penguineer repeatedly after the event so you always have your friend.

Teeny tiny maintenance for today.

-The Sealed Box headgears (Rideword Hat, Pirate Dagger, Fish in Mouth, and Pencil in mouth) have been made NPC saleable for 30,000z for those who get unwanted multiples from the box.

-Updates to the server software, going to see if this resolves some of the issues that have been reported about character select/server disconnection issues.

August 16
  • Add a Stacker in Eden group to stack boxed goods into 1 pile
  • Update Izlude Dungeon and Mjolnir monster spawns
  • "Unopenable box event" ? (If it can be finished it in time)
  • Airports and Airships fixed/improved, less than 2 minutes to get to destination
  • Einbroch to Ein Field 4 portal fixed Ein Field 4 is the Geo map that was all the rage for the Fire Children as we've come to know archers and mages.
  • We are hoping that the changes we have made on the back end may help stabalize the character server, but it is not a for sure thing but I want you to know that we are working on it with every maintenance. Today we are doing a significant update on the back end that may help clear up such issues.

  • Kunlun Ferry has been repaired!
  • Those that use the Magic Stone, can get a special +200% exp for 30 minutes (1 time) by talking again to the "Magical Stone Checker", you will get the option to use it now or not after will offer you options to go to a dungeon (1 time). The EXP doesn't stack with BM, it is in fact using the BM buff to give the bonus.
  • MVPs will no longer Earthquake, this will stay that way until Trans update, so go get Bapho!
  • Dungeon Teleport scrolls 10 box for 75pt.
  • Rental Gears implemented. Lower powered shield, shoes, garment options. These are intended to be permanent.

  • New Client introduced that should fix most client requests, like descriptions, and multi-clienting. Delayed, the client made it so one or the other client version would crash, IE only could play Classic or Renewal, rebuilding to fix this.

  • Changing 2nd class job changes to check if you have spent the Magic stone yet, it will ask at the start, and at the end of the quest. This shouldn't impact anyone but if it does contact the GM team.
  • Adding Amatsu town and surrounding maps.
  • Amatsu added will allow you to hunt all the hair for the hairstyle change.
  • Adding NPC to Eden group that will allow you to spend the Magic stone early so you don't have to worry about it during 2nd class job change.

Rental items are intended to be a long term seller on Classic, better balanced against the in-game items both in effectiveness and in price.

I think the price of the 2 week rentals are fair, but a few of the items were a bit OP when compared to what is available in-game. We will be correcting this.

My plan for future new rental items is as follows.
  • Modeled after an in-game gear
  • Gear defense/attack will be set at around +6 or +7 effectiveness.
  • Will have "carded" effects but at a lesser amount than the in-game items.
  • Example 1 : Rental Soul-Enchanted Shoes def 9 (like +6) Max SP+10%, +2% SP Recovery (2/3 of a sohee carded shoes)
  • Example 2 : Rental Underneath Gladius, Attack 140 (like +7 without bonus attack) +40% damage against Earth Element Creatures. (double carded Gladius which is a 3 slot item)
Such rental items would be "sets" so we would do Shoes and boots of the same design, then weapon sets like Gladius, Gakkung, Bastard Sword, Chain, Saber, bard/dancer weapon, and a spear and Axe of some sort.

those sets would be limited time offer so stocking up, and then the next set comes out 2 weeks later or so. I believe with this we can not stomp on the long term game market because those would be better than the rentals, but it would allow good utility for begining or non-invested characters.

If you have ideas on what weapon/armor to model these after please let us know so we can put in something good for you.

As for non-rental stuff, I know that copying lucky boxes from renewal servers will not work, not now and perhaps not ever. But putting packages together should still be viable. After all we do have hat appearances available to use, and wide open for effects, if any, to put on them. But the question is, make a small box that has 3-5 things that randomly come out or everything comes out. Difference being the random is cheaper and perhaps allows the hats to trade, or the everything box that the hats are untradable but you get all of them for a higher price.

I'm kind of disappointed by the fact that the dragon tail map on the payon fields wasn't added... Once we have all of the maps in are there any plans to update maps to the actual episode 13.2 spawns? I feel like in some cases the map changes you guys are making are good, but in several cases they are dissapointing, like in the case of Chiv having no instant spawn abysmal knights currently, and the lack of a field map with dragon/nine tails on it, and a few other things I can't think of off hand.

All the Magical Stone Checker say is, that I'm already on the list, there is no option to choose the bonus exp D:

Icewall is easily the most OP skill in the game.



That said, this "Classic: Loki" is nothing like classic or Loki at all. As someone who played on the real classic Loki, I'm somewhat offended by the choice of names. "Kafra Shop Online" would have been more appropriate. </snark>

This.

Overall the changes have been underwhelming and impractical(Wall of Text inc.):

TL:DR: 13.2 maps > these map changes. Use less GM time on map changes. Use more GM time on bug fixes.

-some of the changes are positive for low level characters(Payon: spores, wolves, Morroc: desert wolves/scorpions, hodes)
-some of the changes are positive for medium/high level characters(Comodo: seals, fur seals, GH prison, etc.)
-some of the changes accomplish a very comparable update to simply updating the spawns to 13.2(sphinx5, comodo north cave, comodo alligators, etc.)
-most of the 'good' changes involve a generic increase in spawns, but this would be equally beneficial to 13.2 maps as it would be to 5.0 maps(above benefits would work equally as well in 13.2 map zones)
-some of the 'good' changes are not sufficient enough to make the map competitive enough with other popular leveling maps(e.g. GH majos, GH wind ghosts, moc_pryd06, cmd_fild anolians)
-many of the changes involve an increase to monsters in very haphazard ways(e.g. Greatest Generals are numerous on 5+ maps, but there is no one map good for them)
-many maps with spawn increases actually hurt low-mid level players by doubling/tripling the amount of looters, or doubling/tripling the amount of aggressive monsters, etc.
-a couple of maps now include one or two 'dangerous' monsters that are good for killing bots(Am Mut on dokebi map, etc.) but are generally unneeded and undesired by leveling players, even if they are a minor/moderate inconvenience(what level 50 player wants to get one-shot and have their armor broken by Acid Terror?)
-some of the "Theme" maps in Glast Heim make no sense(culvert sleepers, "ME" staircase) and maps should never be adjusted with themes that make no sense.
-some 'region spawn' maps have been negatively adjusted(GH Frames/Marionettes in Tower, Goblin Archers in Comodo)
-several monsters have too many homes(Greatest Generals, Desert Wolves, etc.) due to spawn changes not being made with previous region changes in mind, whereas the opportunity to make unconventional and 'new, fun' maps is wasted(Raggler map? Galapago map? or, to take a page out of Doddler's wish list, a Grove map? etc.)
-many maps, even with increased spawns, are inferior(sometimes vastly inferior) to their 13.2 counterparts(comodo tharas, comodo wild rose vs. gef_fild wild rose, payon dragon/nine tails, GH chiv 1, moc_fild03 GG/elder willow map, sphinx 4, etc.)

GMs appear to be spending a lot of time and resources to make map changes. While the effort is appreciated, resources could be much better utilized by fixing critical bugs and issues(constant char/interserver crashes, cmd_fild05 having 200+ anacondaqs for no reason) and preparing the server for WoE/region updates, especially when the majority of map changes are largely unneeded and underused, and in some cases entirely unwanted.

I honestly feel that the 13.2 maps being implemented would be much a more efficient and beneficial system than the current map change system based on what we've seen so far.

Some of the 'bad' maps from 13.2 could be revisited at a later time and adjusted(preferably with more than 24-48 hours notice for feedback, and with changes based on player experiences and an understanding of map/monster synergy rather than staff theory that, for all their good intentions, severely lacks in practical RO knowledge).

I would like to see you kill the bio3 MvP without ice wall. Bio3 is one of the few maps where there's a legitimate use for ice wall.

putting packages together should still be viable. After all we do have hat appearances available to use, and wide open for effects, if any, to put on them. But the question is, make a small box that has 3-5 things that randomly come out or everything comes out. Difference being the random is cheaper and perhaps allows the hats to trade, or the everything box that the hats are untradable but you get all of them for a higher price.

Let's get some prize boxes of some kind!
Box 1: 3 items
Box 2: 4 items
Box 3: 5 items
All priced accordingly, all tradeable until opened. Once opened, one item from each box remains tradeable, others are account bound. Items are random, from a sizeable list of good stuff, no Godly items, no fluff. Just really good stuff.

Is this asking too much? Seriously, because I don't know, but would spend the KP to play this lottery :)

It's very obvious that not many people posting here, besides Ren and a few people I'm not caring to go backwards to go look/read their posts, have MvP'd high tiered MvPs outside of Endless Tower and/or renewal. Ice Wall was very critical and a very useful tool. If what they wanted was Classic and "things the way they were" there's tons of things that would be needed. I'm not saying these MvPs can't be done without IW, they can and will be. It'll still be the same top tier guilds getting it and monopolizing it. A strategy will be found. But like mentioned.. the Biolab MvP without IW will be an utterly waste of time. Go ahead and watch how many times it's killed when Labs comes out.

TL;DR... I think it's completely stupid to put in a renewal change on Classic.

Serious question for a second, what did Ice Wall accomplish (other than icewall bugging the MVPs) that fiberlock couldn't? It seems to me that ice wall just makes it so you don't have to fight the MVP to kill it, and I imagine that is exactly what the change is supposed to stop.

Of course, I've never killed the bio3 mvp Pre-RE (and for the record I am also against the change lol), but I'm curious what could make it so useful other than bugging the MVP?

I was thinking more for teleporting mobs in Biolabs. Almost all party MvPs need Icewall (Valk, Bee, Bio3, Ktull?, Ifrit, etc.)

Yea same here .. ice wall is essential skill for those mvps. I really hope this change is reverted once bio lab comes out. Ice wall added variety to the game. WTF do I use ice wall on now? Also who came up with this brilliant idea? because they need some sense knocked into them .. How is removing ice wall making the gameplay better?

Your argument is kind of stupid too seeing as how ice wall was always disabled in Endless Tower and people cleared it all the time.

Ifrit: MS tank with sac, someone with GR to survive the EQ and res.

Bee: Just tank him with MS you pussies.

Ktullanux: You can tank him on a god damn paladin or LK without any trouble at all. Ice wall for Ktullanux? LOL, that's the funniest thing I've heard today.

Valk: LK or pally tank, make good use of soul linkers and GR to survive EQ.

There are no god items/mvp cards (afaik) right now so competition is fair game.

I agree with what you say. The ice wall change should not affect the ability to kill any other MvP in the game. However I feel that Bio3 must be an exception. Ice Wall is incredibly useful in Bio3 for a number of reasons. Outside of Bio3, every MvP is killable without Ice wall and it probably promotes a better strategy rather than simply bug abusing an MvP to kill it quick.

I've never done Ktull, don't know how to do it.
In ET, mobs don't teleport, so you can rude attack them all day long (Redemp+Shield Reflect anyone?).
Without Ice Wall, as soon as the tanker dies, it's a party wipe, and you have to reset. If your tanking bee, and he Exiles you, your party is wiped.

You use a backup tank standing next to bee if the main one gets exiled. As for the others, I've killed every MvP without the use of exploits and they are all possible without requiring multiple ghostrings.

As for the exile thing. I understand that exile is very frustrating, but then I'd rather see exile removed from him than allowing people to ice wall him. If your tank gets exiled you should just gwing and set up again, I know it's annoying, but it's not like you'd get wiped if you're attentive enough to see what's going on.

Anyone who uses redemptio and shield reflect in ET is a-_- btw... Just saying.

Again, stop using boss cards as a way to do MvPs.

There was a reason there's a question mark next to Ktull.

What's wrong with Redempt and Shield Reflect in ET? It's effective, fast, and you don't wipe.
