@mept I may be completely off here, but I'm pretty sure this is correct. You can acquire the same attack power for less total stat points by splitting the work between STR and INT rather than relying on INT alone.

I just started playing yesterday so I might have this wrong, but I thought you wanted mostly INT as a monk because of Spiritual Cadence and it's "1 point int = 2 AP" passive

That is true, what SC does is basically turn that INT into STR, so it's better to spend equal points on INT as well as STR to get the maximum points possible.I just started playing yesterday so I might have this wrong, but I thought you wanted mostly INT as a monk because of Spiritual Cadence and it's "1 point int = 2 AP" passive

Looks pretty good. Personally I'll probably go more hybrid tank/damager. I don't want tanking to be my main focus.

To be absolutely honest, life would be much easier for you if you went pure tank as a monk. c:' most people will expect that from you, and besides, no matter which build you choose, your damage won't be high enough to really contribute as a DPS...Looks pretty good. Personally I'll probably go more hybrid tank/damager. I don't want tanking to be my main focus.

You can be a damager even tanker build tho, it depends on gear on the end game but the hybrid build is good
But basically, most of the time people need monk to become as a Boss-Tanking.(High defense and average parry) so try not to focus on pure dps, because those monk gears are lack of stats and atk powers (Knight and Warrior weapon are better which is not fair for monk class :/ )
For an example, I use Aod weapon and another War or Kni use Colo weapon even we have a same tier gear (colo+coa)
The result is Knight and Warrior can out threat my Monk ...... :/ (because their power atk from the weapons are more than mine
+500~!)
But for a chance to survival Knight and Monk are better and I usually become a MT
For my def/dodge/parry at the end game stats with full buff is about 59%/18% (it will be 38% if uses flee) / 60% with aod+colo gears
and for atk power is about 2.2k+ (3.2k with Fury state). maybe this will be enough for dpsing even u become a tanker build

@hongaun Shouldn't be able to obtain Monk gear before that? As you are able to gather Izlude Hill Statues and get gear from the cat merchant in town. Granted you can only legs, torso, and weapon. I also had planned to at least stay Acolyte for Izlude Cave as it would benefit my party members more to have an awesome healer rather than an "ok" monk.
*Currently level 24 and I plan on running Izlude Cave tomorrow with some friends, then switching classes.
In case you get to level 25 while still having acolyte gear and no monk-specific gear (monk gear gives both str and int, while aco/priest only int + agi), better to remain as an acolyte first.

Yes this is due to SC. Balance between STR and INT point. Basically, the moment you change to monk class, you should start pumping your str stat.
I feel like regardless of what I call my build or what I gear it towards it will still be a tanker. That's just what monks do naturally. By Hybrid I mean to say that I'll have the ability to tank while also trying to maximize my damage. Though we will probably have to wait and see if they give us better monk weaps. *sigh*
AFAIK, tanker build is a much better build even in PVE/PVP, as the benefit you get for extra def/hp for less dmg is quite signficant. Even you try to max out your damage abilities, the damage difference is almost negligible. Monk is not blessed high Agi gear, so don't hope for dodge/crit too much (though flee remains an essential skills in PVP/high-end bosses.
I have posted my mix aod/coa gear in the other thread (tips for new monk) in case you are interested to see. Even with high end gear, you see my atk power is actually not much compared to warriors.
Btw I'm putting off playing a monk (snowfish) in this server. Going to play a wizard first (snowrain).
Do add me !

After getting your staples, you should consider maxing your Quad palm & Finisher as, during the earlier stages, this will prove to be much more reliable in consistent output of damage.
After that, go and pick up 1 TSS(this will be your initiator for aggro mobs), 1 Lightning walk, and either work your way to max Ki Protection or Fury.
In reality Asura should be a late priority as the damage potential for the double guillotine fist combo is meh.
Well that's from my experience at least.

Might I also add that to the newer monks, DON'T GO FOR ASURA ASAP.

@xGanelon
If you don't mind, would you share your experience as a monk in PvE? I often begin the fight with Throw Spirit Sphere, followed by Raging Blow and Heavy tackle until the enemy is dead. I only use Ki Explosion and Ashura Strike only on Boss fight. Perhaps you can give me advice in optimizing monk?

I used to hate monk class in RO1. But now, I choose monk as my first character here. I choose it not because I want one-hit kill ashura strike. I choose it because I like the concept of martial arts combined with inner power. I don't really need a one-hit kill skill like in RO1. The current monk in RO2 is good enough for me, I guess...

This is actually my process in farming, since Asura strike has 1 min cd, i ought to maximize the strongest skill we have as often as I can, Throw Sphere-Fury Explosion-Asura, then 10 secs before the effects of Fury Explosion expires, I use up Protection Ki, as soon as the increase damage effect of Fury explosion expires, I use Summon Spirit Sphere to gain 3 spheres instantly and reset all the cooldowns of major skills, then recast Throw Sphere-Fury Explosion-Asura again, after all major skills are on cd, it is when I will use 1x Crushing Blow then 1x Raging Blow then finish with Heavy Tackle (I usually reserve my protection KI for emergency purposes while Summon Spirit Sphere is on cd, for me this is the most efficient way of maximizing our skill, especially in pumping up your threat in Bosses as tanker in raid dungeons. I hope this helps and works for you too.

However, I do have a few pressing questions for those monk experts.
Why Lightning Walk? Why not Throw Spirit Sphere? It has a shorter CD and and increases ATK Power.
Also why is everyone leaving Crushing Blow at 1 also? It also has a shorter CD and gives you 2 Spirit.
Does the effect of reciving Spirit matter at all?

lightwalk cooldown drops from 60sec to 20sec and more or an increase in damage % gained than TSS and crushing blow
TSS do go get an increase in atk power with points or it cooldown shorten also the increase in damage is very negligible
same with crushing blow the cooldown does not get lowered and the damage gained is very negligible.

I have a question. What is the best Runestone to put on gears for a Monk (Tank)?
Vit Runestone? For HP pool.
or
Str/Int Runestone? For ATK + Parry.
Any comments or suggestions?
