I just been wanting to use that pic http://forums.warppo...tyle_emoticons/default/happy.gifI think it's more a matter of picking your battles. If you whine--ahem--over every little detail, you lose credibility for the things that matter.

SquareEnix requires you to use their PlayOnline program to access Final Fantasy XI. Both PlayOnline and Gateway suck up computer resources in addition to requiring high-end graphics card to even work properly. I suppose Gravity has probably fixed those problems somewhat, but still, why should I use Gateway when I have xFire that has the same features with a simpler interface? No other game companies has a required software to open up a game.

As to my previous case regarding Gateway's elimination... I want to say one last thing.
The very fact we have a 'Gateway Support' section in our forums sums up my point more than I ever could.
I don't want to ruin anything, I am merely interested in the efficiency of the game. Less red tape and more results.
That's all.

Nice change of heart thereI would appreciate it if everyone could keep this professional as stated in my original post. These snide, immature comments are only weakening our case and aren't appreciated. Furthermore, I would like to say I no longer feel 100% Gateway should be completely eliminated after inspecting the program myself last night on a rare occasion it was operational. There are a few somewhat useful functions regarding information gathering about the other games WP is offering and the proposed voice chat feature is promising as well. However, given those virtues, I feel it should be optional. I also believe a bypass should be posted on these forums in case of technical difficulty.

Pretty much, just get over it. It's not leaving, even if we want it to. It's been said before.

I think the whole community wants it gone o.oIf you guys hate gateway that much, just bypass it on your own and quit causing havoc on the forums. It isn't necessary.Don't bring the whole community into your problems. Just do what you do on your own, or with friends, and nothing for you will change. Not a big deal.

However, I think flaming this wouldn't exactly work either. I mean, if you're complaining about Gateway and how it's bad, just bypass it. I think most of you know how to bypass it by now, judging from the previous posts. All the other games (Ragnarok, Requiem,Rose..etc) played with Gateway too. I don't know whether or not they hate it or like it, but seeing that Gateway is still here, I assume that they lived with it too.
If this was about new players and Gateway, then I would agree, yes, some simplifications are a good idea. On the contrary, it's more like old players who just want it gone and are pretty stubborn about it. And from what I think, putting oil on fire isn't going to stop the fire, it's only going to make it bigger.

I have the same mentality when it comes to Gateway. Being obligated to use Gateway and having it somewhat forced on us takes away the fun of the program. At times, I might want to use it. It's a cool little program, but at other times I just see it as an inconvenience. I have other programs that can do everything that gateway can do. I really don't need gateway, although I could use it. It's not a bad program by any means, but players simply don't like feeling forced to use it in order to play/open the game. If gateway is a good program, it shouldn't have to piggy back on WP games for players to use it.
Calanor listed a lot of problems with gateway, which were giving players a headache, and said that they are being worked on and fixed. While inevitably those problems will be eliminated eventually, I am sure there will be new problems with the program at times. That being said, if gateway is the normal way for players to access the game, it is inevitably going to cause inconveniences for players at times. I would think WP's primary priority would be to provide the most enjoyable gameplay experience for players that is possible. Making gateway completely optional will eliminate possible future problems that prevent players from playing the game, and it will make players more keen on trying gateway and using it because they are choosing to use the program. Occam's razor: the simplest solution is often the best. For many players, gateway complicates things and is unnecessary. Some simply don't like logging into gateway and then logging into the game. It is an extra step.
Also,
The next 'Big Update' for the Gateway will include Group Chats, or Chatrooms rather. We will also be including Voice Chat, allowing both 1:1 Voice and Group Chatting.
Great! That's awesome. Sounds really cool. Maybe Gateway is like delicious cake. We probably would like some. Offer it to us, but don't force it down our throats. Just allow us to download the dragon saga client directly, and have a box that we can uncheck if we do not want to install gateway, and I am pretty sure everyone will be happy.

1. Do NOT schedule SEPARATE maintenance times for it from the game I want to play.
2. Do NOT require me to run it to play my game. (If you do, I'll either hack it, or put the ENTIRE game on a private server)
3. Don't try to re-invent the wheel. Chat? I have MSM, Voice? I have ventrilo...etc., etc. Don't try to be the "ANAL DUNGEON MASTER" and CONTROL everything. If you attempt to control everything, that will be the FASTEST way to lose control of everything...trust me. Smart people with PC skills will 'own' you every time. IF you don't believe me I'll send you a link to a private server running Dragon Saga as I speak.
I want to play in YOUR playground, but there is a limit as to how much BS people will take. Don't try to see what that limit is.
[Edit] I play the game to interact with others here in our community...Gateway is an obstacle to that end.

You should add an official bypass method for Dragon Saga unless you can get it working 100%. It's a nice program and if it was working perfectly I'm sure plenty of people would use it. I personally started Gateway and then turned it off because I got extremely annoyed by the Hey, you've been playing too long notice showing up midbattle.
Much like general problem of WarpPortal, never make it harder for the customer to pay or for the customer to try your product. WarpPortal was the reason why I thought to try Dragon Saga but it took far too much effort to actually play it because of the gateway program.
