First there could be a vote on whether or not to nuke the existing Classic server. If a majority says yes then it would go ahead. I'm not entirely sure why but for some reason I get a good feeling about having Classic destroyed and rebuilt. It could be because I read too many comments on the forums or maybe because Ragnarok is in the name of the game? I don't know but if the voting majority wants to keep Classic as is then I would fully support that too. (the idea doesn't necessarily need to involve the destruction of the Classic server)
I think the launch of Ragnarok Journey could be a good chance for Classic to redefine itself. I heard about lots of grind in other mmo's could be seen as good. Is competitive grinding a thing in Ragnarok? During the time I spent here I sort of got the idea that maybe it was or maybe could be.
For this hypothetical Classic, what if it started with only the basic x1 rates and a basic, mostly cosmetic Kafra shop? Feedback and recent updates from the current Classic could also be included in this first phase level.
Next more things could be gradually added back but would be voted on first and need a majority to pass. (like Kafra shop additions, maybe a condensed version of the Treasure Cache system, if transcending should be allowed, Janeway modifications etc)
In all likelihood the server would probably stay in a semi basic state for a long time since new things would have to get past public scrutiny.
Since the base rate would be lower and there are less chances for boosts then there could be more events and spotlights to compensate. On a non event day, VIP would sit somewhere in the middle between the un-adjusted rates and event rates.
This is my pitch for an idea that I believe has a larger chance of turning out good than it is to fail. I can't say for certain if adding grind could turn out good because I had never played it when Ragnarok first came out.
Going to put 2 links with more details and further discussion:
