Hello!
It seems that I can connect to any ftp sites using a browser but not with an ftp client like filezilla and windows ftp command. I also tested using a vpn client ( tunnelbear ) and I got connected but could not download a file. I got stuck at "150 Opening ASCII mode data connection." error.
I've discovered that
ftp unfortunately isn't useful for diagnosing a computer's inability to retrieve files from the update server because it only supports "active mode". Almost all FTP clients, including Internet Explorer (which the updater uses to retrieve updates), use "passive mode" by default because many routers don't correctly handle active mode.
Did you change any of FileZilla's settings before you attempted to connect to the server? I was able to connect and retrieve files by doing the following:
- Install and then open FileZilla (64-bit) on the latest version of Windows 10.
- Press control-S.
- Create a new site with the address ("host") patch1.playragnarok.com.
- Press Connect.
The following workaround allowed
Wipe0ut (whose ISP is PLDT) to update his/her client and play:
Note:
- You should only complete this procedure if your ISP is PLDT.
- Step 6 is necessary to allow the updater to update itself.
- Download the following file, and then extract it into the client installation folder1:
Renewal client updates (2017-02-16 to Date).zip - Close any applications that can consume a large amount of bandwidth, such as BitTorrent clients.
- Connect your computer to a VPN (such as ProtonVPN, TunnelBear, or Windscribe) or cellular network (using a mobile telephone).
- Open the Renewal client. The updater should very quickly install all of the available updates.
- Disconnect your computer from the VPN or cellular network.
- Press Play, and then close the client.
- In File Explorer/Windows Explorer, navigate to the client installation folder.
- Right-click on the file Ragexe.exe, and then choose Send to → Desktop (create shortcut).
- Right-click on the shortcut that you created in the previous step, and then choose Properties.
- Append the text " 1rag1" to the value of the Target field (including the space and excluding the quotation marks).
- Press OK.
- Give the shortcut a descriptive name, such as "Renewal".
To open the client while bypassing the updater, open the shortcut that you created on step 8. When a new update is released, you should update the client by doing the following:
- Download the new update files from the update server, and then move them into the client installation folder.
- Repeat steps 2 to 5 of the preceding set of instructions.
By updating the client using this method, your computer should consume only an extremely small amount of bandwidth while connected to the VPN or cellular network.
