To be more correct that would not be a hoplite... that is a centurion (roman soldiers using adapted greek strategy/armor/arms)

Most hoplites did not wear full chest armor, usually a brestplate, or at most leather armor.

Berserkers are nordic frontline soldiers, known for wearing only pelts, and not much of it.

Zulu warriors wore barely a codpiece, and were quite successful at combat.

Blackfoot, mochican and several plains indian tribes....

Picts and gaelic/celtic tribes fought in little to nothing.

Most of these armies where more successful than more heavily armored troops, and this is only the start.

Really the only icon you could use Xenobia/Senobia/Zenobia (dependent on translation).

Gaelics did wear some armor, and even if armor was discouraged at first, they started to wear more armor and heavier weapons when they met vikings.

It is curious to note that the word 'hoplite' comes from the shield that these army men used. They walked in a square formation, kinda like in 300 movie, so the shield was like their armor. Even if the body armours of these soldiers varied from heavy to light or just hardened fabrics, they didn't fight naked or wore pointless armours like some RO charas xP.

I would put the zulu warriors, native tribes, and so on warriors into the special category of "we don't wear armor because we don't know how to make one". But in my opinion, eventually any group of warriors would develop some kind of armor if they see that it makes their fights more favorable (as with gaelics) with whatever they have at hand. For example, aztecs initially fought without armor, but as they advanced they started using armors of cotton soaked in salt.

I would also like to point that no gaelics, romans or zulu warriors were harmed while writing this post. Just in case someone worried about xenophobia .

None of those warriors would be like "oki, half of you go heavily armored, the other one of you gets to wear cute pointless armor". Or in a modern army/police go like "okay guys, here are your uniforms: camouflage clotheing and a bulletproof vest. Here is your armor girls: cute colors, and we removed the bulletproof vest so you can show your belly" xP.

Higher level mobs are harder to kill, which translates to more work, and therefore equates to skimpier clothing so that the job is less... taxing.

People in RO Want more armour on females, people in SWTOR want less armour.

I kinda hate how my Consular wears old man's robes. Can't wait for appearance tab. Hope its better than RO's implementation lol.

Female warriors in games typically prefer skimpier armor because they do a lot of acrobatics compared to the men, and need to be able to move around easily. This has less to do with sexism and just the simple fact that most females are lithe and spry as opposed to 'heavy' like male warriors, so being fast is more suited to their body type.

The armor is practical! Personally I think the male characters should get to wear less too so we can also perform ninja flips in a thong.

(also on the topic of spandex body suits. That's too sensible. Also, if everyone were wearing spandex, this would be a superhero game. Have you tried using Guillotine Fist in spandex? too sweaty!)

In case anyone can't tell that I'm not actually serious, well...I'm not actually being serious. But honestly, it's fantasy. An unspoken rule of fantasy costume design is that it doesn't have to be practical if it's kinky enough to get a reaction. That goes for male and female designs.
