If the changing of the recipes is going to take a while, can you at least implement the not expiring upon death part? That seems like an easy thing to put in.
Loss on death. Remove it. Kthnx

One part of Ragnarok that has been around for much of it's history is the cooking system. The first time around, it was not long after the Cooking system was implemented that the same +10 foods that were lighter, but lasted 10 minutes less were offered in the Kafra shop. The cost and ease of those Shop versions were such that in-game cooking disappeared.
I don't want to repeat that event, I do want some Kafra shop stuff, but I want in-game cooking to still be highly sought after.
Problems with in-game cooking:Things we are thinking about :
- Crazy rare items to do the high tier recipes
- Loss of buff on Death
- Difficulty finding good cooking utensils.
- Item weight was very high.
We aren't making changes now to this system, but it is on the planning board for updating, likely after we finish the map updating in about 2 weeks. So let's hear some ideas you have on pros and cons and ideas about the system.
- Make Weight a non-factor
- Maybe change the actual recipes (this would take a long while as there are 100 recipes now)
- Perhaps offer the high end ingredients via Kafra shop while other changes are happening.
- Update drop/hunt rate/quests to get those ingredients.
- Maybe only offer +7 or so items in the Kafra shop, so the in-game variants are better.
Thank you for being a part of Classic's future!
I was just begining to do research and hunting food drops for cooking. Made a character specifically to cook.
Time to drop some money into the game instead.

Word on the street is that someone gave you some hints on where to find existing script to make this happen without Korea's help. Also, it seems Korea already has the codes to make the food not expire on death.
We've also haven't heard anything about this updated ingredients list for food. You said you'd be working on it after RWC, but no update at all.
Just bumping this thread as a reminder that some of us still want cooking to be viable. Now that trans is out, I'm sure a lot of people will be interested in making final builds around stat foods they can make.

So it's been over a month since the last post about player made foods. Have you guys submitted a request to kRO to put in the code for the food not to go away on death?

It is too late to change it anyway, using +10 food is now an 24/7 requirement.

I think they could work on a quest to make everything easier, like a quest that make you able to buy all cooking kit and basic loots at a moderate npc price. but on the other hand the acess quest requirement would take a freaking huge amount of zeny/items (I really think the consumables should be removed on the recipes and be switched to something else except for those which are already buyable)
You could divide the quest in many part just like someone becoming a legendary chef or something, and at some part you get acess to cheap stuff until you get acess to really good stuff
Example:
Like acess to lvl 1 food ingredients
requirement: 2,5M zeny 10 foods of each lvl 1. must have finish the cooking quest. Must have the Chef king Orlean Vol. 1 (dropped on cookies)
Some basic change on some foods
replace honey consumable for Honey Pot (etc item)
replace grape consumable with broken liquor jar (even if its not related much to grape)
And at the end it could look something like
Lvl 10 Food acess quest
requirement: 1B zeny, must have cook at least 100 food lvl 10. must have done Kiel hyre quest, and many other quests, must have Orlean's glove, Orlean server, Orlean gown, and Chef king orlean Vol1 in inventory in order to enter the last area where the vendors are,
Must have etc loots of all mvp or something.
Steamed Tongue:
Blue potion replaced by Battered Keetle
Royal Jelly replaced by Solid Peach
AloeVera replaced by Reptite tongue
Alcohol replaced by Straw Basket
Yggdrasil leaf - no change
Tongue - No change
Spicy sauce - No change
Pot - no change
anyway its just an example I guess the items should be somewhat harder but its just to get the main idea.

the cooking system is useless when you can buy +10 foods in the kafra shop, only way to bring back cooking foods is taking them out of the kafra shop (which you won't/shouldn't do)

Or make them stay through death (which you can't do apparently).

still way more efficient to buy the kafra shop foods

I like the idea of splitting cooked food into 5min pieces. It would make the food more usable for mvp/pvp/woe. However this should only be possible with cooked food, not for cash shop food.
We also need some recipe changes. Maybe I post sth later.

Perhaps use the 5 minute splits but bump non-kafra food up to 1 hr duration?
