This post gives me a headache. Its selfish and "morally repugnant" to want to keep your stuff at the cost of 500+ other peoples' future enjoyment of the game. You are twisted backwards in your logic.
Do you even understand the thousands of hours people have poured into acquiring those items? You might not have god items, or mvp cards, but how would you feel if your most prized in-game acquisitions, whatever those happen to be, were just wiped out at the whim of someone who had no concept of the effort you put into getting them? Would you just take the loss and keep playing afterward if that happened to you?
What you're suggesting is not only self-centered, but I daresay that it's evil and morally repugnant. It's comparable to someone going to city council and requesting that an addon to your house be demolished with no compensation to you. Mind you, this add on is entirely legal and within code, but the other person wants it destroyed because they're jealous, or they just don't like you, or whatever. They want to legitimize they're desire to vandalize and outright destroy your property, which you worked hard for, when normally, doing something would be illegal and result in criminal charages if they tried to do it themselves. Thus, they appeal to the government to fulfill their depraved desires on their behalf.
In short: It's easy enough for you and others to simply say "well, just wipe them all" because it won't hurt you in any way, but that's very selfish to not think about how it will hurt others. You have no right to call this person selfish, you hypocrite. Neither you nor any other player has the right to arbitrarily strip others of their efforts.
Your analogy is horrendously bad too. If I put 80 hours into clearing a console RPG and I start the game over with all my "hard earned" end game equips in a New game+ its fun for like 15 minutes, then I quit. Because it is never as fun as when you have trials and tribulations and stuff to earn still. When I go back and replay the game every 2 years or so, I start a new file, I don't load the new game+. After a merge most people will quit after this "15 minutes" of having a server where the god items and mvp cards outnumber players. It happened on Iris and it happened on Ymir. That you don't realize this begs me to out your pattern recognition and reasoning abilities into question. Many people on Ymir have realized this and jumped ship to Classic or Ymir, even if they owned godlies on Ymir. Because WoE is boring and has no point when you have nothing left to compete over. Why are you the last horse to reach this particular epiphany?
Its selfish for you to want to destroy the future of this game and cause an exodus of players so you can keep your "hard earned" toys. You had fun getting them, making them, and using them. That's the point. You don't play a game of baseball and start the next game with your previous number of runs because you worked hard for them last game. You had them, used them, enjoyed them, and marked yourself against others, and now it's time to do it again to stay competitive in the game.
Your accomplishments on RO is your "score on a the game", not fricken real "property". Ask Gravity how much you truly own the data on their hard drive.
Nobody would be asking for the wipe of these if it wasn't necessary for the continuation of this game. I have put 8 years or so of effort into this game and if it came necessary for every account on iRO to be wiped and everyone to start over as a 1/1 novice or else the game is going to close permanently, I'd give up all my stuff in a heartbeat to allow the game to continue. Because unlike you, I don't put selfishly horded digital items and levels over actually being able to play and enjoy the game with other people, and compete in WoE.
The 1500+ people on classic are all people who started over. They gave up up to 10 years of effort on the now-renewal servers to play there. Because they felt it would be fun. Can you maybe stop thinking about yourself for a minute and instead think of what will be fun for everyone if there was a merge?
