As someone who plays the caster type Warlock (that is, manually casting spells more than flinging memorized spells) I find Runaway magic is much more preferred, with runaway magic proc and lvl 3 radius with over 100 base int it is already near 45% fixed reduction by myself which is pretty damn good considering I dont have an AB around with me.

How do you deal with the mana drain?

Its not as bad as you think, you only need runaway magic duration while you have a mob, the moment the mobs dead, just swap out the boots with a different boot, the runaway magic buff instantly ends. Then i re-swap to the boots with RM and rinse repeat. This way i find its way more easier to manage the blue bar. You still need to sp regen item it once a while but every player should be potting regardless.

I suppose that a caster type WL needs more money than one that uses memorized spells, is that right?

You always use both, a lot

Caster type = not support warlock = damage warlock

One more than others.

You have an effective RC GX for 200m, but not an as effective WL for 200m

In my humble opinion, a Warlock can really shine only when they are supported by the land buffs provided by the sage line. They share both a mutual destruction and generation.

i suggest you change to ranger or gene if you a fresh new player. I would recommend geneticist more and get homunculus amistr evolving to sera for painkiller. That moment your real game will start, spam hazy with less than 20 normal pots, summoner, low mvp farm, solo everything.

warlock is not newbie friendly char if you are not wlling to speed up your zeny progress by spending cash. warlock is -_- at everything, this coming from warlock first char player.

It is up to your gameplay, for me, my love is on reading spell book + comet + recognize spell. Until 150, i just throw comet or few elemental if they resist neutral.

I am curently lvling new WL, my current build is 120 int. My gear is +9FAW, +9COD, temp int boot, rwc, ninja scroll, devoted eye matk1%, and +7cleanSOD. With only vip buff, if the mobs are at center, about ~50k ancient worm and ~60k to draco. No need to worry about outer leftover mob coz there is so much rangers around. That is your less than 1b possible gears.

You could also go for tsod+skullcap combo.

After 150, idk because i stop lvling my WL, i only use him to farm fenrir for now.

+1 to this. 1 bi is not enough to get good gears for a Warlock, even though you can get started.

What you want is:

+9 FAW with Spell 18-19 > ~600 M

+9 Ordinary Black Magician Hat (~150 M) with KK Card (~250 M)

Robo Eyes (~30 M) or Mid Headgear with Weakened Fenrir (~50 M)

+9 SoD Spell 4/Spell 4 > ~600M

Orleans Robe (~10 M) or Geffen Magic Robe (~100 M) or Diabolus Robe (~100 M).

Temp. INT or DEX boots with Spell 5 > Not sure, but should cost 100 - 300 M with a good enchant on the 3rd slot, and less than 30M with a bad one. Wouldn't recommend, though.

2x Elvira Card > ~400 M

2x Pendant of Maelstrom (~350 M) or 2x RWC Pendants with double MATK +3% or double Spell 3 (these alone may cost more than 1bi, depending on your luck) or 2x Magic Amp. Rings (don't know how much these cost... maybe ~75 M each).

Of course you won't be able to buy half of those with your budget, but there's the general guidelines.

What you can get (maybe):

+0 FAW (~220 M) with Raydric Card (~15 M) or Antique Book Card (~5M not sure if I got the name right) > Try to get to +7 after hammer is gone and the price on Safe to 7s return to normal (10 - 12 M each), and to +9 when hammer comes back

+9 OMBH with KK Card (~400 M)

+7 SoD Spell 3/3 or 4/2 (~60-80 M IF you can find it)

+0 Geffen Magic Robe with Agav Card (~120 M)

1 Magic Amp Ring (~75 M)

Variant Shoes (~2 M) or non-enchant Temporal INT/DEX Boots (~6M each)

Still has ~80 M for spending later. Maybe gears for a ranger, lol. White Wing set and +7 Elven Bow would do for starters.

You can get to 150 easily with those gears, but things will get tough after that. Plus, I don't know if you'll be able to use some of those gears before becoming a Warlock (some are unusable, like the OBMH and the temporal boots). As a main warlock, I'd strongly recommend you to make a cheaper class first (Ranger is probably the cheapest one to be effective, though this is debatable), and after you acquire a reliable source of income, you can make your WL. This can even be something like 3 perma-level 100 rangers to solo low TI and get 12 badges a day, wich will convert to ~7 M a day.

Or, if you're like me and love spellcasters so much, make a Sorcerer. You're less likely to become disappointed.

I think that The only mandatory things are +9 faws spell 19 and rwc spell or matk, if have elviras better, rest can be made or farmed later, i farm my first temporal int with RM with my friends (those are The same +6 i have now) on The meantime any temporal int with cheap enchants will be ok, spell and speed of light are pretty neat and those are for 20-30m, for staff a +7 sod is all what you need and after that just make a thanatos staff (high matk and chance to proc a kind of power up sp/hp recovery) i still use that for my instance runs.

For headgear, a obmh as people as told you, i actually recently make mine +9, before i use a +9 cod with dark illusion lmao, or any hat depending on what i was fighting, my obmh has tikbalang for more cl damage, want to make one for ghost dmg too. Armor, whatever you feel confortable, i start with orleans, then i get a no refine spellflow set (wich i refine to +4) and i start using elemental valk armor or whatever i had elementally carded and doesnt add more cast time...tbh wl has some difficulties but is not that bad, i like to play a lot my wl in pvm.

I think wl do it pretty well on pvm and leveling wise, in parties you are going to be more a secondary or primary dmg dealer depending on what else is on that party, of course according to our gramp-playstyle, you are going to feel a lil bit lacking speed, but that has to do more on how iRO meta is (potting through lvls one shoting everything) than The class being weak.

I thought about getting one after watching your videos, but I'm quite disencouraged for the great loss in MATK that would result. Can it be enchanted in Malangdo? Is the staff worth it?

Since I'm lacking in money to buy a KK card (which has been quite inflated as of lately), I'm quite tempted to put my Yellow Lichtern Card on my +9 OBMH. As for Tikbalang, I have one on my +9 Skull Cap. It helps me beat the crap out of Bakonawa, and level at level 3 NCT, as a shield is an absolute must to level there with my great latency.

About the Staff, well it depend, of course that a SoD will be hands down the best to deal more damage, but i think that is important only when you are dealing with MVPS or Boss monster,s for example killing Fenrir, or the Jitterbug, or Amdarais, you want high DMG to actually kill them faster...But when you are dealing against the rest of the mob, you have to think, "i kill them on one shot with this staff? what about the Thanatos, i still kill them one shot? well if the answer is yes, then ill go for Thanatos, really on pvm is up to, i can one shot this guys on this setup and now i cant, so is a preference thing...The one handed staff had a 200 base matk tho and is a lvl 4 weapon, so have a high matk for a ohs...i like it for mob and stuff, i usually change to my +7 SoD when i have to deal more dmg (i know is a crap upgrade lvl and isnt even enchanted lmao). And of course you will notice the damage decrease, but as i told you, is up to you, if the benefits are greater, well, then use thanatos.

Also is so cheap to actually make the staff that you wont lose anything just making it, not even buying it...you casn make for cheap a lot of specialized +7 staff because they have slot, 200 matk and +6 int/vit. Overall is a good staff :).

If your generally in a party (which a party will most likely have a Maestro to reduce your dependancy on cast reduction gears, unless of course that maestro only has lvl 1 Magic Strings, WHICH I HAVE SEEN A FEW FLAUNTING THEMSELVES AS SMARTARSES AROUND!!) I think its really redundant to even think of having KK card in a obmh if at all in the modern contemporary RO, hands down the Tika-wat-ever-thingy card would be far superior the choice.

Might I also suggest using Vertical Firewalls at NCT? It is still very powerful a technique to use!

Most likely impossible to one-shot anything after TIs are over. Only Scarabas, but then again... I left that hole a long time ago. And I one-shoted them with TSoD too XD. I thought about making one a lot of times, but selling Thanatos Katars is one of my most reliable sources of income, and there's this Thanatos Staff selling for weeks, so it disencourages me to get one right now. Specially since that damn Enriched ScHammer took almost all of my money. :sob:

Silly me didn't get firewall after resetting. One of my greatest regrets. Plus, I have to confide that I have trouble using VFW with my lag problems. I'm not continually laggy, but I have intermittent small freezes, and if they occur while I'm placing firewall, it screws me badly. So I usually use quagmire > FM > JF > SW > Amp > CL. After that FM > JF > Amp > CL (rinse and repeat). How long it will take to kill the mobs depend on how many monsters are there. I deal ~45K damage on a frozen Big Bell with a single CL hit, so, not that bad, I guess... I miss using vertical firewalls, though... I didn't have this kind of lag in any P-server that I played before, neither (of course) in my country's official server, bRO, and I could do it nicely when the latency allowed me to do so.
