^

As of yesterday, I have successfully convinced 4 friends who have never played iRO to come and try it because the game is now on steam (major victory).

The VERY FIRST THING that EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM said was "why is this game so laggy?" (major failure).

Immediate action required.

We need tracerts, where they are leveling, where they are playing from and tracerts.

While I understand that tracerts are necessary, you should understand that new players are not going to bother putting together a tracert when they are not invested in a game. They'll just quit instead.

Oda, is there an issue with the steam players trying to buy WPE in WP site? My friends cant seem to buy/load WPE in their accounts.

Steam users have to buy WPE through steam.. Unfortunately for classic users that means logging into renewal buying the points and then logging onto classic and spending them.

Is it a regular occurrence that GMs take over a week to even give a REPLY to a ticket... not even bother solving the issue?

Ridiculous I can't get a response.

Suggestions:

  • Add Medicine Bowls to the tool dealer in the Mail Annex.
  • Enable Special WoE Blues/Whites in PVP/GD.
  • Enable WoE Blues outside of Castles to allow re-filling of SP during buff sessions outside.
  • Add the WoE Kafra to Valfreyja/Nidhog Realms.
  • Reinstate the GvG physics PVP maps.

After aprox. 7 years of not playing Ragnarok Online, I was enthusiastic about the fact that it was being promoted over by Steam (to be honest, I was hoping STEAM was in charge of iRO) and jumped back into action. Let's face it, the game is slowly dying, it's community is built around people that been playing this for years and each passing minute, the community diminishes. Current servers have a poor player base, consisting mostly of bots + double clienting merchants, and a huge lag issue, which I never even had a problem with SEVEN YEARS AGO. I convinced a couple of old friends to join me once again, unfortunately, the previously stated problems eventually got the best out of my buddies, and they left. I can only imagine the horrible experience new players get when they join the servers. Every month I see upcoming updates patch information, yet no answer to these truly archaic issues. I understand it is exciting for you and the current player base to see these new updates/episodes/whatever, but I truly believe your efforts are being wasted into taking care of petty issues, such as implementing new maps/dungeons/etc. Moscovia is coming to the Classic server. Lag still not going anywhere. Now, a new window of opportunity appears with Steam, where MILLIONS of users get to see this game advertised. It is by far the best and probably the only chance iRO has to be revived into magnificent glory and grow beyond whatever you have expected in the past couple of years. "We need tracerts". Really? TBH that is the sound of unproffesionalism. Last time I checked, International Ragnarok Online meant the community is made up by multiple nationalities and countries (and evidently, connections from multiple places from around the globe). Hell, look at it from a business point of view. You can't just open a store where you can't fit all your customers. Forget that. You can't open up a store and not be able to support your current customer flow! It's ridiculous! How the hell can somebody even call that BUSINESS. Unless you think surviving with a 3k userbase is business, where half of it isn't even real (again, bots and merchants). Just look at it from my perspective: Theres HUNDREDS of private servers (which I do not approve off), running on less resources than you and providing a hell of a better experience for players from around the world ("Better" untill they find out how their broken game is even more broken/imbalanced when you mess with drop/exp rates). Honestly, knowing all of this can make a man feel sad and disappointed. I pray for the day where instead of "new dungeon next pacth", I can finally read "hey guess what, we upgraded our servers/connection/whatever so we can finally take care of our current player base and all of those potential new players we're currently not getting because of SIMPLE ISSUES SUCH AS LAG AND BOTS". And please, don't try to convince people that "botting is a hard issue to address". Because of these bots, the economy is as broken as it can get. How do you expect a new player can EVER figure out how the heck are they gonna get geared when they spend their first 30 minutes grinding for 1000 zenny and potions are 1500 ea. Gears valued in the tens of millions (AVERAGE GEARS). More new players lost. The fact is bots are an issue that can be fixed. But, the real conundrum begins when your paying playerbase is involved in botting.

tl;dr

Fix lag

Fix bots

Yes you have the resources to do it

No, new maps/quests/episode aren't as important.

  • Enable Special WoE Blues/Whites in PVP/GD.

GD is fine, but keep them out of pvp! Seriously!

@PixelG

nothing more to add.

However there is a way to get enough manpower to get rid of botters.... but iRO is still in 2003 :/

Sure, the WoE potions should stay out of PVP then along with the huge numbers of people that go to PVP on a regular basis.

If that is all your input, you should go back to right clicking enemies. Leave this for people who actually care (and understand the game mechanics)

Mate it's been years, it's not changing. Every mmo (and some online games) have these problems, Ragnarok doesn't have some unique bot problem.

If Chinese farmers want to bot, they're going to damn well bot. The only reason they stopped recently was because the population went down, now that it's slightly picking up they're starting up the generators again.

I'm sure Oda would love your idea of how to fix it though. Last time they tried to put a stop to bots creating new characters it stopped legitimate players from easily playing the game.

Bot's have all the time in the world, they don't care if they get banned. They'll just start up a few more.

And for the private server argument where there aren't bot problems. Think about this: Chinese farmers don't get paid to bot there.

This I understand. All of this is of everyones knowledge. Yet I am addressing not the botters who pursue a real life economical gain. Let's get real for a moment. One of the various advantages of the Ragnarok Shop is that it's prices are at such an affordable rate, spending money on bot websites ends up being a waste since you are provided with enought tools to not need to "buy gold & equips @ cheapz" from sketchy websites! Why pay for equipment if the Store will provide you tools which end up being better than recurring to bots to make a virtual economical gain? Set up the scenario: BotterCheapRoMoneyDotCom spends 4 weeks farming pay_fild02. BotterCheapRoMoneyDotCom gets X amounts of valuable loots. BotterCheapRoMoneyDotCom2 spams website. What are the chances of an old school gamer falling for that obvious scam?! Hell, not even the new, younger players fall for that, not when the game and it's store make it viable to not resort to buying "stuff" from somewhere else. Those botters are the least threat. They amass items and in game currency which will never see the light of the day! Most of their zenny comes from selling loot to NPCs which probably nobody will ever buy, and the most valuable items they get are destined to be sold for money (again, which will never or rarely will happen). They don't affect the economy in such a hard way. The real problem is the "leet folks" abusing the fact that theres impunity to botting, and actually engage in the virtual economy of this game. Just do a simple search. That guy selling over 25 andre cards is an obvious botter. And hes not zelling those items so he can amass retarded amounts of zenny he will never able to sell for IRL cash. Chances are that account is linked to multiple botting accounts belonging to some dude claiming to be such "a hardcore player" (normally, the most popular/wealthy guys/gals/guilds you meet in-game).

tl;dr

you're right but:

Classic Server = 600+ active players

200 bots/merchants

400 unique active players (yeah right)

out of 400, mostly veteran players, how many will actually buy from a cheap website when the kafra shop is a safer/better investment?

problematic botters are those "legit players" abusing bot impunity

That's ridiculous. Whilst I dislike the fact that many high end players abuse the crapstorm that is catching all the bots, the problem is just simply too large of a scale to get rid of in that way.

for what it's worth, unfortunately, quite a few people buy zeny from those farms. Again, stupid on their part, but a fact.

You only avoid pvp because you can't afford real supplies? C'mon...  I want to play classic and not unlimitedSupply_7kBombsWoE_RO. Thats ridiculous! However, what you do in woe doesn't matter and should stay off topic.

Instead of enabling free bg afk potions on every map you should add this Staff:

Novice Battle Staff (Bravery/Valor Badges: 500)
Description: A Rod that has been modified for brave Novices who face enemies in battle.
It is especially designed for battles against Demihumans.
MATK +20%, Int +2, Dex +1, not indestructable.
Ignores Magic Defense from Demihuman monsters by 20%.
Enables a 10% chance to inflict the Stun effect when using magical attacks.
Enables use of Level 5 Storm Gust.
If refined to +7 or higher, it enables use of Level 10 Storm Gust.
If refined to +9 or higher, adds an additional  MATK +5%, Skill Delay -15%.
Weapon Level: 4
Weapon Type: One-handed Staff
Atk: 40
Weight: 0 (like every accbound bg equip)
Required Level: 95
Jobs: Novice Class

or:

kill all bots. I think you know what can be easier done to make at least some people happy ;)

Kid. It's not about what I will/won't do personally in WoE or PVP, it's about the general population.

If I were to use potions though, cost is not an object for me. I willingly would spend more on potions in a single minute of PVP than most players are willing to spend on all of the equipment and potions they will ever use in their RO career.

It only seems fair to level the playing field.

I'm willing to PVP you right now, without potions.
