This whole concept looks like a huge task (maybe too big) but it's Feuer's free time he will waste in something he will have fun with.
Gravity might be stiff and it might seem that they are not accepting work from outside but they do.
Possible issues come with "how to implement this with our tools/pipeline"
Creating new map (Feuer, I don't know what tools you have) in some 3d program might be a waste of time as Gravity might be unable to use it if it's made in some common 3d formats, BUT they can use textures (terrain tiles), layout ideas, environment meshes (trees, building rocks, all that junk), monsters with their animations and textures, armors, new skill animations, whole skill/balancing/whatever ideas etc.
Sometimes it is easier to make something from scratch than trying to import/convert/modify someone elses work.
Yes, there is a risk of "copyright issues" but sometimes you can't trust even your own employees (there was some drama years ago because S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game had some textures and stuff that was "borrowed" from other games). There is also issue of naming, similarity in game features etc that someone can come out of his cave and press charges on you because "it looks like something he did".
So, yes, I can see champs point and "fear" and what he said wasn't just rubbish, but more like very cautious point of view (someone has to point bad sides/possible problems),
although it IS a little bit too pessimistic.
I say, let's see what Feuer can do and support his good will and hope that he will make some decent stuff and that as many of his work will be implemented in game.
Personaly, I think it is too big project in such small amount of time but again, why shooting him down before he even started? He might be a superproductive creative person who IS able to make all this in time he said he will. Even if he manages to do 20% of his plan it would still be a nice contribution.
What I would like to see from community is some decent review of his progress and point out every little thing that doesn't look good enough to fit this game so things could be fixed (don't just say "I want this" just because you are starving for updates)
I recommend that Feuer gets in touch with CM/devs so they can discuss things in private about what can be accepted and what not.
